Parts

  • Climate control module (A/C control head unit) × 1 — Toyota OEM 55900-06430 or equivalent
  • Trim panel clips (if broken during removal) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  4. Ensure center console area is clear of any items or debris

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower dashboard trim panel
Using plastic trim tools, carefully pry the lower dashboard trim panel below the steering column. Release the retaining clips by working around the perimeter. Pull the panel away gently and set aside.
  2. 2
    Remove center console trim bezel
Insert plastic trim tool at the top edge of the center dash bezel surrounding the climate control module and audio system. Gently pry outward to release the upper clips. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing clips on both sides and bottom. Pull the bezel forward approximately 2 inches but do not fully remove yet.
  3. 3
    Disconnect hazard switch connector
Reach behind the center bezel and locate the hazard switch electrical connector on the back of the panel. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector. Fully remove the center bezel and set aside in a safe location.
  4. 4
Remove climate control module mounting screws
Locate the four Phillips screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard bracket (two on top, two on bottom). Remove all four screws using a Phillips screwdriver and retain them for reinstallation.

  6. 6
    Disconnect electrical connectors
Locate the two electrical connectors on the back of the climate control module. The larger connector controls the display and main functions; the smaller connector is for backlighting. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight back to disconnect. Note the orientation for reinstallation.
  7. 7
    Remove old climate control module
Once both connectors are disconnected, fully remove the old climate control module from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting bracket and wiring for any damage or corrosion before installing the new unit.
  8. 8
Install new climate control module connectors
Take the new climate control module and connect both electrical connectors to the rear of the unit. Ensure each connector clicks firmly into place and the locking tabs engage properly. Gently tug on each connector to verify secure connection.
  9. 9
Install climate control module into dashboard
Carefully guide the new climate control module into the dashboard opening, ensuring wiring is not pinched or kinked. Align the mounting holes with the bracket. Push the module flush against the dashboard bracket.
  10. 10

  13. 13
    Reconnect battery and initialize system
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to ON position (engine off) and verify the climate control module display illuminates. Test all climate control functions including fan speed, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and A/C button.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all trim panels are properly seated and aligned with no gaps
  2. Check that all climate control buttons and knobs operate smoothly without binding
  3. Perform window auto-up/down relearn if necessary: roll each window fully down, then fully up and hold switch for 2 seconds

  • Test blower motor at all fan speeds (1-7) and verify smooth operation
  • Test temperature control by adjusting from full cold to full hot and verify air temperature changes
  • Test all mode selections (face, bi-level, floor, defrost) and verify proper airflow direction
  • Press A/C button and verify compressor engages (engine RPM may increase slightly and A/C light illuminates)
  • Test recirculation button and verify door actuator operation
  • Verify rear defrost button operates if equipped
