Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off engine
- Verify replacement cap is correct part number for your specific model year
Procedure
- 1Open fuel doorPress the fuel door release button located on the lower left side of the driver's footwell, or manually push on the left rear side of the fuel door to open it.
- 2Remove old fuel capTurn the fuel cap counterclockwise until it releases from the filler neck. The cap is tethered to the fuel door assembly and will remain attached.
- 3Inspect filler neck sealCheck the rubber seal on the filler neck for damage, debris, or contamination. Clean with a dry cloth if needed.
- 4Install new fuel capAlign the new cap with the filler neck and turn clockwise until you hear at least 3 distinct clicks. This ensures proper seal engagement and prevents evaporative emissions system codes.
- 5Close fuel doorPush the fuel door firmly closed until it latches. Verify it sits flush with the body panel.

Verification
- Test cap by removing and reinstalling, confirming audible clicks during tightening
- Verify fuel door opens and closes properly without binding
- If check engine light was previously illuminated for P0440, P0441, or P0455 codes, drive vehicle through 2-3 drive cycles to allow system to clear codes
