Warnings
⚠Allow headlights to cool for at least 10 minutes before beginning work to prevent burns from hot bulb glass.
⚠Never touch the glass portion of a new halogen bulb with bare skin as oils will cause premature failure and hot spots.
ℹ️This procedure covers bulb replacement only. If the entire headlight assembly requires removal, additional steps are required.

Parts
- H11 halogen headlight bulb (low beam) or 9005 bulb (high beam) × 1 — Verify which bulb position requires replacement
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and turn off ignition
- Allow headlights to cool completely if recently used
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Identify which bulb needs replacement: low beam (H11, located toward center) or high beam (9005, located toward fender)
Procedure
- 1Access the bulb compartmentLocate the back of the headlight assembly in the engine bay. For the driver side, you may need to move aside the fuse box cover or coolant reservoir slightly for better access. For passenger side, access is more direct. Identify the rubber dust cover or plastic bulb access cover on the rear of the headlight housing corresponding to the bulb that needs replacement.
- 2Remove the dust coverGrip the rubber dust cover firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn, then pull straight back to remove it from the headlight housing. Set the cover aside in a clean area. If your vehicle has a plastic twist-off cover instead, rotate it counterclockwise until it releases.
- 3Disconnect the electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector attached to the base of the bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect it from the bulb. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself.
- 4Release the bulb retaining mechanismThe bulb is held in place by a wire retaining clip or spring clip. Press the clip toward the bulb and unhook it from the retaining notch, then swing it out of the way. Some models may have a twist-lock ring instead; if so, rotate the bulb counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn to unlock it.
- 5Remove the old bulbCarefully pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing. Avoid excessive force or rocking motions. Inspect the bulb base and socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage. If damage is present, the socket may need servicing before installing the new bulb.
- 6Prepare the new bulbRemove the new bulb from its packaging while wearing clean cotton or nitrile gloves. Never touch the glass envelope with bare hands. If you accidentally touch the glass, clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth before installation. Verify the bulb type matches the original.
- 7Install the new bulbInsert the new bulb into the headlight housing, aligning the tabs on the bulb base with the slots in the housing. Push the bulb in gently until it seats fully. The bulb should only fit in one orientation due to the alignment tabs.
- 8Secure the retaining mechanismSwing the wire retaining clip back into position and hook it into the retaining notch to secure the bulb. Ensure the clip is fully engaged and the bulb is held firmly in place. If using a twist-lock design, rotate the bulb clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks.Torque specBulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect the electrical connectorPush the electrical connector straight onto the terminals of the new bulb base until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and secure.
- 10Reinstall the dust coverAlign the rubber dust cover with the opening on the rear of the headlight housing. Push it into place and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it in position. Ensure the cover is fully seated to prevent moisture intrusion into the headlight assembly.
Reassembly
- Ensure all access covers are properly sealed and secured
- Return any moved components (fuse box cover, reservoir) to their original positions
- Close hood securely
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Turn on headlights and verify the new bulb illuminates properly
- Check both low beam and high beam operation (depending on which was replaced)
- Verify headlight beam pattern is correct and not aimed too high or too low
- Confirm no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
