Parts

Preparation

  1. Ensure ignition is off and key is removed from vehicle
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  3. Locate the dashboard speaker grille on top of the dashboard near the windshield

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove speaker grille cover
Insert a panel removal tool or trim wedge at the edge of the speaker grille. Gently pry upward to release the retaining clips. Work around the perimeter until all clips are disengaged, then lift the grille away from the dashboard.
  2. 2
    Access speaker mounting screws
With the grille removed, you will see the speaker mounted to the dashboard frame. Identify the mounting screws securing the speaker (typically 2-3 screws around the perimeter).
  3. 3
    Remove speaker mounting screws
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove all mounting screws securing the speaker to the dashboard. Keep screws in a safe place for reinstallation.
  4. 4
    Disconnect speaker wiring harness
Carefully lift the speaker up from its mounting location. Locate the electrical connector on the back of the speaker. Press the release tab on the connector and pull to disconnect the wiring harness from the speaker.
  5. 5
    Install new speaker
Connect the wiring harness to the new speaker by pressing the connector firmly until it clicks into place. Position the new speaker into the mounting location, aligning the screw holes with the dashboard frame.
  6. 6
    Secure speaker mounting screws
Install the mounting screws through the speaker and into the dashboard frame. Tighten screws in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Do not overtighten as this may crack the speaker housing.
  7. 7
    Reinstall speaker grille
Position the speaker grille over the speaker opening, aligning the retaining clips with their receptacles in the dashboard. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place and the grille sits flush.

  • Play audio through the replaced speaker at various volume levels to confirm proper operation
  • Listen for any rattles, distortion, or abnormal sounds from the speaker
  • Verify grille is securely attached and does not rattle during test
