Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key

Procedure

    Disconnect battery negative terminal
    Open hood and locate battery in engine compartment. Using 10mm socket, loosen the negative terminal bolt and remove the cable from battery post. Secure cable away from terminal to prevent accidental reconnection.

    Locate the overhead console assembly between the sun visors. Using trim removal tool, carefully pry the front edge of the map light lens cover downward. Work around perimeter to release all clips, then remove lens cover completely to access mounting screws.

    Remove overhead console mounting screws
    Using Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws securing the overhead console assembly. These screws are typically located on either side of the map light openings. Keep screws in a safe location for reassembly.

    Lower overhead console
    Carefully pull the overhead console assembly downward from the headliner. Do not pull too far as wiring harnesses are still connected. Lower console approximately 3-4 inches to access the rear sunroof switch area.

    Disconnect sunroof switch connector
    Locate the sunroof switch electrical connector on the back of the overhead console. Press the connector release tab and carefully pull connector away from sunroof switch. Note connector orientation for reinstallation.

    Remove sunroof switch assembly
    From the rear of the overhead console, locate the switch mounting clips or tabs. Carefully press release tabs on both sides of the switch assembly and push the switch out from the front of the console. Remove switch completely.

    Install new sunroof switch
    Position the new sunroof switch in the overhead console opening from the front. Align switch with mounting slots and press firmly until mounting clips engage with an audible click on both sides. Verify switch is securely seated and flush with console surface.

    Reconnect electrical connector
    Align the sunroof switch electrical connector with the switch terminals, ensuring correct orientation. Press connector firmly onto switch until it clicks into place. Gently tug connector to verify secure connection.

    Reinstall overhead console
    Carefully raise the overhead console assembly back into position in the headliner. Align mounting screw holes with headliner brackets. Install the two Phillips screws and tighten to specification using torque wrench.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all console trim clips are fully engaged before applying pressure
  2. Verify no gaps exist between console and headliner after installation
  3. Reset power window auto-up/down: fully lower window, then raise and hold switch up for 2 seconds after fully closed

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test sunroof tilt function by pressing rear of switch - sunroof should tilt up then down
  • Test sunroof slide function by pressing front of switch - sunroof should open and close smoothly
  • Verify sunroof stops at each detent position during operation
  • Check that overhead console is securely mounted with no rattles or movement
  • Confirm map lights and other overhead functions still operate properly
