Preparation
- Ensure engine is completely cold to the touch
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Remove engine cover by pulling upward on the four corners to release retaining clips
- Locate the radiator drain plug on the bottom driver side of the radiator
- Place drain pan under radiator drain plug

- 7Clean mating surfacesUse a razor blade or gasket scraper to carefully remove all old gasket material from both the thermostat housing and engine block surfaces. Wipe clean with shop towels. Surfaces must be completely clean and dry for proper seal.⚠Be careful not to gouge or scratch the aluminum mating surfaces as this will cause coolant leaks.
- 8Install new thermostatInstall the new O-ring seal onto the new or existing thermostat. Insert the thermostat into the engine block recess with the air bleed valve (jiggle valve) positioned at the highest point, typically at 12 o'clock position. Ensure it seats fully into the recess.
- 9Install new gasket and housingPosition the new gasket onto the engine block, aligning with the dowel pins if equipped. Carefully place the thermostat housing over the thermostat and align with the bolt holes. Ensure the gasket remains properly positioned.

- 13Bleed air from cooling systemStart the engine and allow it to run at idle with the heater set to maximum heat and fan on high. Watch the temperature gauge. As the thermostat opens (around 180-195°F), coolant level may drop. Add coolant as needed. Run until cooling fans cycle on and off at least once.⚠Monitor the temperature gauge closely.
