Replace the front turn signal bulb by accessing the bulb socket from behind the headlight assembly in the engine bay.

Warnings

Allow bulb to cool for at least 10 minutes if recently operated to avoid burns
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of halogen bulbs with bare skin as oils can cause premature failure

Tools required

Flathead screwdriver or trim tool
Shop towel or gloves

Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb × 1 — 7440A amber bulb (OEM: 90981-13031)

Preparation

  1. Open and secure the hood
  2. Identify which side needs replacement (driver or passenger)
  3. Ensure bulb has cooled if vehicle was recently operated

Procedure

  1. 1
Locate the turn signal bulb socket
From the engine bay, look behind the headlight assembly on the appropriate side. The turn signal socket is located in the outer corner of the headlight assembly, typically the outermost bulb position. It has an amber-colored bulb holder.
  2. 2
    Disconnect the electrical connector
Press the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself.
  3. 3
    Remove the bulb socket
Rotate the bulb socket approximately 1/4 turn counterclockwise until it releases from the headlight housing. Pull the socket straight out toward the rear of the vehicle.
  4. 4
    Remove the old bulb
Press the bulb into the socket gently and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn to unlock it. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.
  5. 5
    Install the new bulb
Using a clean shop towel or gloves, insert the new 7440A amber bulb into the socket. Press in gently and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Verify the bulb is secure by attempting to gently pull it out.
  6. 6
    Reinstall the socket assembly
Insert the bulb socket back into the headlight housing opening. Align the tabs and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the socket is fully seated.
  7. 7
    Reconnect the electrical connector
Push the electrical connector onto the bulb socket until it clicks into place. Tug gently to verify it is fully secured.

Reassembly

  1. No additional reassembly required for this procedure

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run)
  • Activate the turn signal on the replaced side and verify the bulb illuminates amber
  • Check that the turn signal indicator on the instrument cluster flashes at normal speed (not rapid, which indicates bulb failure)
  • Verify hazard lights function properly with both front turn signals operating
  • Close the hood and perform a walk-around visual inspection with turn signals active
