Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake

Procedure
- 1Access the throttle body assemblyLocate the throttle body on the intake manifold. Remove the air intake duct by loosening the hose clamp at the throttle body inlet using pliers or screwdriver. Disconnect the breather hose from the intake duct and set the intake tube aside.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the throttle body assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage.
- 3Disconnect coolant bypass hosesThe throttle body has two coolant hoses for heating. Place shop towels beneath the hoses to catch coolant drips. Use pliers to slide the spring clamps back on each hose, then twist and pull the hoses off the throttle body fittings. Expect approximately 2-3 ounces of coolant to drain from the hoses.⚠Coolant may still be warm even after cooling period; have towels ready to contain spills
- 4Remove throttle body mounting boltsRemove the four mounting bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold using a 10mm socket. Keep track of bolt locations as they may be different lengths. Support the throttle body with one hand as you remove the final bolt.
- 5Remove throttle body assemblyCarefully pull the throttle body away from the intake manifold. The gasket may stick to either surface. Remove and discard the old gasket from both the throttle body and intake manifold mating surfaces.
- 6Clean mating surfacesUse throttle body cleaner and shop towels to thoroughly clean both the throttle body mounting flange and the intake manifold mating surface. Remove all traces of the old gasket material. Do not allow debris to fall into the intake manifold opening; stuff a clean towel into the opening temporarily if needed.⚠Keep throttle body cleaner away from painted surfaces and rubber components
- 7Inspect throttle body boreWith the throttle body removed, inspect the throttle plate and bore for carbon buildup. Clean if necessary using throttle body cleaner. Do not force the throttle plate open manually as this can damage the electronic motor. If replacing the entire throttle body assembly (which contains the integrated IACV), transfer the coolant fittings if they are separate components.
- 8Install new gasketPlace the new throttle body gasket onto the intake manifold mounting surface. Ensure the gasket is properly oriented with all bolt holes aligned. The gasket should sit flat without any wrinkles or folds.
- 9Install throttle body assemblyCarefully position the new or cleaned throttle body assembly onto the intake manifold, aligning it with the gasket and bolt holes. Insert all four mounting bolts by hand and thread them several turns to ensure proper alignment before tightening.
- 10Torque mounting boltsTighten the throttle body mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to ensure even gasket compression. Torque to specification using a torque wrench. - 11Reconnect coolant hosesPush the coolant bypass hoses firmly onto the throttle body fittings until they seat completely. Slide the spring clamps back into position over the hose ends. Verify both hoses are secure by gently pulling on them.
- 12Reconnect electrical connectorPlug the electrical connector into the throttle body until it clicks into place. Tug gently to verify it is fully locked. Ensure no wires are pinched or touching hot exhaust components.
- 13Reinstall air intake ductPosition the air intake duct onto the throttle body inlet and tighten the hose clamp securely. Reconnect the breather hose to the intake duct. Ensure all connections are tight and properly seated.
Reassembly
- Reinstall engine cover by aligning clips and pressing down until they snap into place
- Reconnect negative battery terminal
- Top off coolant reservoir to the MAX line with Honda Type 2 Blue coolant if needed due to spillage during hose removal
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (do not start) and verify check engine light performs normal bulb check
- Start engine and allow it to idle; engine should idle smoothly without hunting or stalling
- Check for coolant leaks around the throttle body hose connections while engine is warming up
- Verify no vacuum leaks by listening for hissing sounds around the throttle body gasket area
- Allow engine to reach operating temperature and confirm idle speed stabilizes between 600-800 RPM in Park/Neutral
- If check engine light remains on, scan for codes; may need to perform throttle body relearn procedure using OBD-II scanner or by following Honda's idle relearn process
