Parts

  • Door speaker (front or rear) × 1 — Use OEM Honda specification or aftermarket equivalent
  • Door panel clips (if damaged) × 4 — Honda 91512-SZ3-003 or equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  3. Roll window down completely to prevent stress on window regulator
  4. Gather all tools and replacement speaker before beginning

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel screws
Remove the Phillips screw behind the door pull handle cover. Pry out the small trim cover behind the interior door handle and remove the Phillips screw underneath. On models with tweeters, carefully pry out the tweeter grille from the upper door panel.
  2. 2
    Disconnect door controls
Carefully pry out the power window switch assembly from the armrest using a panel tool. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. If equipped with power locks, disconnect that connector as well.
  3. 3
    Release door panel clips
Starting at the bottom rear corner, use a panel removal tool to carefully release the door panel retaining clips. Work your way around the perimeter, gently pulling outward once each clip releases. There are approximately 8-10 clips around the door panel perimeter. Lift the door panel up and away from the door frame once all clips are released.
  4. 4
    Disconnect door handle cable
Reach behind the door panel and locate the door handle release cable. Unhook the cable from the latch mechanism by rotating the cable end and pulling it free from the bracket. Carefully set the door panel aside on a clean surface.
  5. 5
    Remove speaker mounting screws
Locate the speaker mounted in the lower section of the door. Remove the three or four Phillips screws securing the speaker to the door frame. On front doors, the speaker is typically 6.5 inches; rear doors may have smaller 6-inch speakers.
  6. 6
    Disconnect speaker harness
Carefully pull the speaker away from the door enough to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the old speaker from the door.
  7. 7
    Install new speaker
Connect the electrical harness to the new speaker, ensuring it clicks into place securely. Position the speaker in the door mounting location, aligning the screw holes. Install the mounting screws and tighten evenly in a cross pattern to avoid warping the speaker basket. Do not overtighten as this can damage the speaker frame.
  8. 8
    Reinstall door panel
Reconnect the door handle release cable to the latch mechanism, ensuring it is properly seated in the bracket. Position the door panel and align it with the top edge of the door frame, then push down to engage the top channel. Press firmly around the perimeter to snap all retaining clips into place.
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical components
Reconnect the power window switch assembly and power lock connectors, ensuring they click securely. Press the switch assembly back into the armrest until it seats flush. Reinstall the Phillips screws behind the door handle and replace the trim covers.
  10. 10
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. Test the new speaker by adjusting the audio balance/fade to that specific door and verify sound output across different volume levels and frequencies.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated and the panel is flush with the door frame
  2. Verify all trim covers and screws are reinstalled in their original locations
  3. Test window operation to ensure no interference with the door panel
  4. Check that the door handle operates smoothly and the cable is properly connected

Verification

  • Test speaker output at various volume levels to ensure proper connection
  • Use audio balance/fade controls to isolate the replaced speaker and verify clear sound with no distortion
  • Verify all door panel clips are secure with no rattles when closing the door
  • Confirm power window and lock switches operate normally
  • Check that interior door handle releases the latch properly
