Parts

  • Blower motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Blower motor resistor (if applicable) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and set parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Open hood for battery access
  4. Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure cable away from battery post
  5. Move passenger seat fully rearward to maximize working space
  6. Allow HVAC system to cool if vehicle was recently operated with heat on

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect battery negative terminal
Using a 10mm socket, loosen and remove the negative battery terminal bolt. Carefully remove the cable from the battery post and position it away from the battery to prevent accidental reconnection during the repair.
  2. 2
    Access passenger side footwell
Position yourself in the passenger footwell area. Remove the passenger side floor mat and any debris. You may need to work partially from outside the vehicle with the door open for better access and lighting.
  3. 3
    Locate blower motor housing
Using a flashlight, locate the blower motor housing on the passenger side under the dashboard. It is positioned near the firewall and is a cylindrical black plastic housing approximately 6-8 inches in diameter. The electrical connector will be visible on the side of the motor.
  4. 4
    Disconnect blower motor electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the blower motor housing. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation. If the connector is difficult to access, you may need to remove it after loosening the motor mounting screws.
  5. 5
    Remove blower motor mounting screws
Using a 7mm socket with extension, remove the three mounting screws securing the blower motor housing to the HVAC case. The screws are arranged around the perimeter of the motor housing. Support the motor with one hand as you remove the final screw to prevent it from falling.
The blower motor housing may have debris or leaves accumulated around it. Be prepared for debris to fall when removing the motor.
  6. 6
    Remove blower motor assembly
Carefully pull the blower motor assembly straight down and out of the HVAC housing. You may need to rotate it slightly to clear the mounting area. The motor and fan cage assembly will come out as a single unit. Inspect the mounting gasket or seal; if damaged or deteriorated, it should be replaced.
  7. 7
Inspect HVAC housing and clean debris
With the blower motor removed, inspect the HVAC housing opening for any leaves, debris, or rodent damage. Clean out any debris using a vacuum or by hand. Inspect the blower motor intake area for obstructions. Check the condition of the mounting surface and ensure it is clean and free of old gasket material.
  8. 8
    Install new blower motor assembly
Position the new blower motor assembly with the electrical connector oriented in the same direction as the original. Ensure any mounting gasket or seal is properly positioned. Carefully guide the motor up into the HVAC housing opening, ensuring the mounting holes align with the screw holes in the housing.
  9. 9
    Install mounting screws
Install the three mounting screws by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Once all screws are started, tighten them evenly in a star pattern using a 7mm socket. Torque the screws to specification to ensure proper sealing without over-tightening the plastic housing.
  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the blower motor until you hear or feel it click into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently pulling on the connector. Ensure the wiring is routed away from any sharp edges or moving components.
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery negative terminal
Clean the battery terminal and cable end if necessary. Position the negative cable onto the negative battery post and install the terminal bolt. Torque the battery terminal bolt to specification using a 10mm socket and torque wrench.
Ensure the terminal is positioned correctly on the battery post before tightening to avoid damage.

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall passenger floor mat
  2. Return passenger seat to desired position
  3. Close vehicle hood and ensure it is properly latched

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test blower motor operation at all speed settings (1, 2, 3, and 4) to verify proper function
  • Verify adequate airflow from all vents at each speed setting
  • Listen for abnormal noises such as squealing, grinding, or rattling during operation
  • Check that blower motor stops completely when turned to OFF position
  • Test blower motor with different temperature settings (heat and A/C) to ensure full functionality
  • Verify no air leaks around the blower motor mounting area when system is operating
