This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the heated seat module located under the driver or passenger seat on 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models equipped with heated seats.

Warnings

Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait at least 2 minutes before beginning work to prevent accidental airbag deployment or electrical shorts.
The heated seat module is located near seat track mounting points. Ensure seat is stable and will not move during service.
ℹ️Take photos of wiring harness routing and connector orientations before disconnecting for easier reassembly.

Tools required

13mm socket and ratchetEssential
Torque wrench (10-50 Nm range)Essential
Trim panel removal tool set
Wire brush or sandpaper
Electrical contact cleaner
Flashlight or work light

Parts

  • Heated seat module × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Electrical connector dielectric grease × 1 — Mopar dielectric grease recommended

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes
  4. Move affected seat to full forward position to access rear mounting bolts
  5. Ensure adequate lighting under seat area

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access seat mounting area
Move the seat fully forward to access the rear seat track mounting bolts. You may need to tilt the seat back for better access depending on which module (driver or passenger) you are replacing.
  2. 2
    Remove seat track covers
Locate and remove the plastic trim covers on the seat tracks if equipped. These may snap off or be held by small clips. Use a trim removal tool to avoid breaking clips. Set covers aside for reinstallation.
  3. 3
    Locate heated seat module
The heated seat module is typically mounted to the underside of the seat frame or near the seat track on the inboard side. It is a small rectangular box approximately 3x4 inches with a wiring harness connector. Use a flashlight to identify the module and trace the wiring to confirm you have the correct component.
  4. 4
    Disconnect module wiring harness
Locate the electrical connector attached to the heated seat module. Press the release tab on the connector and gently pull straight out to disconnect. Do not pull on wires. If connector is difficult to remove, spray with electrical contact cleaner and wiggle gently while pressing release tab.
Do not force connectors apart. Connector locking tabs are fragile and can break if excessive force is applied.
  5. 5
    Remove module mounting hardware
Remove the bracket bolts securing the heated seat module to the seat frame or mounting bracket. Typically 2-3 bolts hold the module in place. Support the module while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.
    Torque spec
    Bracket Bolts23 Nm (17 lb-ft)
  6. 6
    Remove old module
Carefully remove the heated seat module from its mounting location. Inspect the mounting bracket for damage or corrosion. If bracket shows corrosion, clean with wire brush before installing new module.
  7. 7
    Prepare new module for installation
Unpack the new heated seat module and verify it matches the original part. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector terminals on the module to prevent corrosion and ensure good electrical contact.
  8. 8
    Install new module
Position the new heated seat module in the mounting location, aligning the mounting holes with the bracket. Start all bracket bolts by hand before tightening to ensure proper alignment. Torque bracket bolts to specification in a cross pattern.

    Bracket Bolts23 Nm (17 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Reconnect wiring harness
Connect the wiring harness to the new heated seat module, ensuring the connector is fully seated and the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure. Route wiring to match original configuration to prevent pinching.
  10. 10
    Reinstall seat track covers
Reinstall any plastic trim covers removed from the seat tracks, ensuring all clips are properly engaged. Press firmly until covers snap into place.
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery
Return to the battery and reconnect the negative terminal. Torque the battery terminal bolt to specification.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Return seat to normal operating position and test full range of seat adjustment to ensure no wiring is pinched
  2. Verify all trim panels and covers are securely reinstalled
  3. Ensure no tools or parts are left under the seat

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position (engine does not need to be running)
  • Activate heated seat switch and verify indicator light illuminates on the switch
  • Allow heated seat to operate for 3-5 minutes and verify seat cushion is warming evenly
  • Test both low and high heat settings if equipped with variable temperature control
  • Verify heated seat turns off when switch is deactivated
  • Check for any error messages or warning lights on instrument cluster related to seat heating system
