Parts
- Replacement door speaker (6.5 inch) × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
- Door panel retaining clips (if damaged) × 5 — Mopar 6503598AA or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Roll down window completely to prevent damage during door panel removal
- Disconnect negative battery terminal if replacing powered speakers or working with amplified systems
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel fastenersUsing a Torx T-30 driver, remove the two screws located in the door pull handle recess. Remove the single screw located at the bottom rear edge of the door panel near the door latch.
- 2Detach door pull handle trimCarefully pry up the forward edge of the door pull handle bezel using a trim tool. Once released, lift the bezel up and away from the door panel to expose the wiring connector underneath if equipped with power windows/locks.
- 3Disconnect power window and lock switchesPress the locking tab on the back of the power window/lock switch connector and pull straight out to disconnect. Set the switch assembly and bezel aside.
- 4Release door panel clipsStarting at the bottom rear corner, carefully insert a door panel removal tool between the panel and door frame. Work around the perimeter to release approximately 8-10 plastic retaining clips. Lift the panel upward approximately 1 inch to disengage the top retaining lip from the window channel.⚠Apply steady, even pressure when releasing clips to minimize breakage. Pulling too hard will snap the clips.
- 5Remove door panelWith the panel lifted clear of the window channel, pull it away from the door approximately 2-3 inches. Reach behind and disconnect the door latch cable by rotating the cable end clockwise 90 degrees and lifting out of the bracket. Remove the door panel completely and set aside on a protected surface.
- 6Access speaker mounting screwsPeel back the plastic moisture barrier carefully to expose the speaker assembly. The speaker is mounted to the door frame with three screws arranged in a triangular pattern.
- 7Remove speaker assemblyUsing a Phillips screwdriver or Torx bit (depending on year), remove the three speaker mounting screws. Carefully pull the speaker forward to access the wiring connector on the back.
- 8Disconnect speaker wiringPress the locking tab on the speaker connector and pull straight out to disconnect. Remove the old speaker from the door. Compare old and new speakers to verify correct replacement part.
- 9Install new speakerConnect the wiring harness to the new speaker, ensuring the connector locks securely. Position the speaker in the door frame mounting holes, aligning all three screw locations. Install the three mounting screws finger-tight, then tighten in a star pattern to seat the speaker evenly.
- 10Test speaker operationBefore reinstalling the door panel, reconnect the negative battery terminal if previously disconnected. Turn the ignition to accessory mode and test speaker function through the radio or audio system. Verify sound output and check for rattles or distortion.
- 11Reinstall moisture barrier and door panelPress the moisture barrier back into place, ensuring complete adhesion around the edges. Reconnect the door latch cable by inserting the cable end into the bracket and rotating 90 degrees counterclockwise. Position the door panel and engage the top lip into the window channel, then press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips.
- 12Reinstall door panel componentsReconnect the power window/lock switch connector. Position the door pull bezel and press down to secure. Install the three Torx screws removed earlier, tightening securely but not over-torquing the plastic mounting points.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing door function
- Verify door latch cable is properly secured and door opens/closes smoothly
- Test window operation to ensure no interference with door panel installation
Verification
- Turn radio on and test all speakers to verify replaced speaker functions correctly
- Check for rattles or vibrations at various volume levels
- Verify door panel is secure with no gaps or loose areas
- Test power windows and locks to confirm proper switch reconnection
