Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
3. Remove cargo area floor mats and verify intended mounting location for subwoofer enclosure
4. Plan wire routing from battery through firewall or door jamb to cargo area, avoiding pinch points
5. If installing amplifier separately from subwoofer, select mounting location with adequate ventilation

   Route power cable from battery to cargo area
   Install inline fuse holder within 18 inches of battery positive terminal. Route power cable through existing firewall grommet (passenger side near fuse box) or door jamb weatherstripping. Use wire loom to protect cable and secure with cable ties every 12-18 inches. Keep power cable separated from factory wiring harnesses to minimize noise.

   Install ground cable connection
   Locate suitable grounding point in cargo area, preferably factory ground stud on passenger side body panel behind rear seat. Clean contact surface with wire brush to bare metal. Install ring terminal on ground cable and secure to ground point. Verify solid metal-to-metal contact for proper grounding.

   Run signal cables from head unit
   Remove center console trim panels to access factory radio. For factory Uconnect systems, use high-level input adapter connected to rear speaker outputs. For aftermarket head units with RCA outputs, route RCA cables along passenger side away from power cables. Run cables under carpet or trim panels to cargo area, securing every 12 inches.

   Mount amplifier (if separate from subwoofer)
   Select mounting location on cargo sidewall or under rear seat with minimum 3 inches clearance for ventilation. Use existing factory mounting holes where possible or drill pilot holes for self-tapping screws. Ensure amplifier is mounted vertically or horizontally per manufacturer specifications, not upside down which can trap heat.

   Position and secure subwoofer enclosure
   Place subwoofer enclosure in cargo area, typically behind rear seat or against passenger sidewall. In Wrangler JK, recommended location is passenger side cargo area secured to tie-down points. Use ratchet straps or mounting brackets to prevent enclosure movement. Verify enclosure does not interfere with seat folding or cargo door operation.

   Connect power and ground to amplifier
   Connect power cable to amplifier positive terminal, ensuring fuse is NOT installed yet. Connect ground cable to amplifier ground terminal. Verify all connections are tight and no bare wire is exposed beyond terminal connections. Double-check polarity before proceeding.

   Connect signal cables and speaker wires
   Connect RCA or high-level input cables to amplifier input terminals. Run speaker wire from amplifier to subwoofer, observing correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). For dual voice coil subwoofers, wire according to manufacturer diagram to achieve desired impedance load.

   Reconnect battery and install inline fuse
   Reconnect negative battery terminal. Install fuse in inline fuse holder near battery. Turn ignition to ACC position and verify amplifier power indicator illuminates. Check for blown fuse or error indicators before proceeding to testing.

   Configure amplifier settings
   Set amplifier gain to minimum position initially. Configure low-pass filter (crossover) to 80-100 Hz for typical subwoofer application. If amplifier has bass boost, leave at 0 dB initially. Set any input sensitivity switches to match source (high-level or low-level input).

    Test and adjust system
    Play music with strong bass content at moderate volume. Slowly increase amplifier gain until distortion is heard, then reduce slightly. Listen for rattles or vibrations in cargo area panels and secure as needed. Verify subwoofer does not bottom out (over-excursion) at normal listening levels. Fine-tune crossover and phase settings for best integration with factory speakers.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall all removed trim panels and cargo area components
2. Secure all wiring with cable ties and verify no loose cables interfere with seat operation
3. Replace cargo floor mats and verify subwoofer installation does not reduce cargo capacity beyond acceptable limits
4. Test cargo door operation to ensure no interference with installed components

Verification

• Verify amplifier power LED illuminates when ignition is in ACC or RUN position
• Test subwoofer output across full volume range with no distortion or clipping at normal listening levels
• Check for rattles or vibrations in cargo area at moderate bass levels and secure any loose panels
• Verify all electrical connections are tight and properly insulated with no exposed wire
• Confirm subwoofer enclosure is securely mounted and cannot shift during vehicle operation
• Test integration with factory audio system and verify no loss of functionality to door speakers
• Drive vehicle and verify no unusual noises or electrical issues related to installation
