This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the sunroof switch assembly on 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler models equipped with a power sunroof.

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and turn ignition off
- Ensure sunroof is in the fully closed position before beginning work
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
Procedure
- 1Disconnect batteryLoosen and remove the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. Move the cable away from the battery post and secure it so it cannot make contact during the repair.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 2Wait for system dischargeWait a minimum of 2 minutes to allow the airbag system capacitors to fully discharge before proceeding with any interior electrical work.
- 3Remove overhead console trim bezelUsing a trim removal tool, carefully pry down the edges of the overhead console bezel starting at the rear near the grab handles. Work your way forward, releasing the retaining clips. The bezel is held by approximately 6-8 clips around the perimeter.
- 4Lower overhead console assemblyOnce the bezel clips are released, carefully lower the overhead console enough to access the electrical connectors behind it. Support the assembly with one hand to prevent strain on the wiring harness.
- 5Disconnect electrical connectorsLocate and disconnect the electrical connector for the sunroof switch by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Also disconnect the map light connectors if necessary for additional clearance. Note the connector orientations for reassembly.
- 6Remove sunroof switch mounting screwsUsing a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws securing the sunroof switch assembly to the overhead console housing. These screws are typically located on either side of the switch module.Torque specConnector Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 7Remove sunroof switchCarefully extract the sunroof switch assembly from the overhead console. Note the orientation and positioning of any retaining tabs or alignment features for proper installation of the new switch.
- 8Install new sunroof switchPosition the new sunroof switch assembly into the overhead console housing, ensuring all alignment tabs are properly seated. The switch should sit flush with the console surface.
- 9Install switch mounting screwsInstall the two mounting screws and torque to specification using a torque wrench. Be careful not to overtighten as this can crack the plastic housing.Torque specConnector Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorsReconnect the sunroof switch electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place and is fully seated. Reconnect any map light connectors that were disconnected. Verify all connections are secure.
- 11Reinstall overhead console bezelPosition the overhead console bezel and press firmly around all edges to engage the retaining clips. Start at the front and work toward the rear, ensuring each clip engages with an audible click.

Reassembly
- Ensure all trim clips are fully engaged before testing the sunroof operation
- Verify the overhead console bezel is flush and properly aligned with surrounding headliner
- Double-check that all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and verify map lights and other overhead console functions operate correctly
- Test sunroof OPEN function - sunroof should tilt or slide open smoothly without unusual noises
- Test sunroof CLOSE function - sunroof should fully close and seal properly
- Verify sunroof AUTO-OPEN and AUTO-CLOSE functions work correctly if equipped
- Check that the switch illumination operates properly with headlights on
- Confirm no warning lights or fault codes are present on the instrument cluster
