This procedure covers replacement of the front turn signal bulb on a 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with 3.6L V6 engine.
Warnings
⚠Allow bulbs to cool completely before attempting removal to prevent burns
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of halogen bulbs with bare hands as oils can cause premature failure
Tools required
Flathead screwdriver or plastic trim tool
Clean cloth or gloves
Parts
- Front turn signal bulb 3157A or 3157NA amber × 1 — 3157A or 3157NA amber bulb
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Allow front turn signal bulbs to cool if recently operated
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
Procedure
- 1Access headlight assemblyLocate the headlight assembly on the side requiring bulb replacement. The turn signal socket is located in the lower outboard corner of the headlight housing, accessible from the engine bay.
- 2Remove turn signal bulb socketReach behind the headlight assembly and locate the turn signal bulb socket. Rotate the socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases from the headlight housing. Pull the socket straight out from the housing.
- 3Remove failed bulbWith the socket removed, press the bulb gently into the socket and rotate counterclockwise to release the bayonet-style connection. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for corrosion or damage.
- 4Install new bulbUsing a clean cloth or while wearing gloves, insert the new 3157A amber turn signal bulb into the socket. Press in gently and rotate clockwise until the bayonet pins engage and the bulb is secure. Ensure the bulb is fully seated.
- 5Reinstall socket assemblyAlign the socket tabs with the slots in the headlight housing. Insert the socket and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the socket is fully seated and secure.
Reassembly
- Close hood after verifying bulb operation
- Dispose of old bulb properly according to local regulations
Verification
- Turn ignition to RUN position without starting engine
- Activate turn signal for the side that was serviced and verify proper amber flash rate
- Verify hazard lights function correctly on the replaced side
- Visually inspect that the lens shows proper amber illumination without dark spots
- Check that flash rate is consistent with opposite side (hyper-flashing indicates improper bulb or poor connection)
