Parts

  • Windshield washer pump × 1 — Mopar 68079569AA or equivalent
  • Washer pump grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
  2. Open the hood and secure it in the open position
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure cable away from battery post
  4. Remove washer fluid from reservoir using a fluid transfer pump or siphon to minimize spillage

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the washer reservoir
The washer reservoir is located in the left front of the engine compartment. Remove the air intake tube or air box components if necessary to access the top of the reservoir. On some models, you may need to remove the left front wheel well liner partially for better access from below.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the washer pump electrical connector at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the pump terminals. The connector typically has a locking tab that must be depressed while pulling.
  3. 3
    Disconnect washer hose
Locate the rubber hose connected to the outlet port of the washer pump. Gently pull the hose straight off the pump nipple. If the hose is stuck, carefully use a flathead screwdriver to pry between the hose and pump body while pulling. Note the orientation of the hose for reassembly.
  4. 4
    Remove washer pump from reservoir
The pump is retained in the reservoir by a rubber grommet. Firmly grasp the pump body and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pulling outward. The pump should release from the grommet and pull out of the reservoir. Expect remaining washer fluid to drain from the reservoir opening.
  5. 5
    Inspect and clean reservoir
Inspect the rubber grommet in the reservoir for cracks, tears, or deterioration. Replace if damaged. Check inside the reservoir for debris or sediment and clean if necessary. Inspect the hose for cracks or damage and replace if needed.
  6. 6
    Install new washer pump
Lubricate the pump outlet nipple and grommet with washer fluid. Insert the new pump into the reservoir grommet at an angle, then rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pressing firmly inward until the pump seats fully into the grommet. Ensure the pump is secure and cannot be pulled out by hand.
  7. 7
    Reconnect hose and electrical connector
Push the washer hose firmly onto the pump outlet nipple until it is fully seated. Connect the electrical connector to the pump terminals, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector.
  8. 8
    Refill washer reservoir
Fill the washer reservoir with approximately 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid. Use the type appropriate for your climate (summer or winter formula). Fill to the MAX line on the reservoir.
  9. 9
    Reconnect battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal to the battery post. Ensure the terminal is clean and free of corrosion before tightening.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall any air intake components or wheel well liner that were removed for access
  2. Verify all electrical connections are secure and hoses are properly routed
  3. Check that no tools or parts were left in the engine compartment

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Activate the windshield washer function and verify fluid sprays from both nozzles
  • Listen for proper pump operation (should run smoothly without grinding or struggling)
  • Check for leaks around the pump grommet and hose connections while pump is running
  • Verify washer fluid level and top off if necessary
  • Test washer function while driving to confirm spray pattern is adequate
