Parts

  • Climate control module × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Trim panel retaining clips (if broken) × 1 — Kia 87756-1M000

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 3 minutes
  4. Set front seats to rearmost position for working room
  5. Gather all tools and replacement parts

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove center console lower trim panel
Using plastic trim tools, carefully pry out the lower center console trim panel starting from the bottom edge near the cupholders. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining clips. Pull panel away gently to access any electrical connectors behind it, then disconnect and remove panel completely.
  2. 2
    Remove climate control bezel
Locate the climate control bezel surrounding the HVAC controls and audio unit. Using trim tools, carefully pry at the edges to release the retaining clips at top, bottom, and sides. There are typically 6-8 clips holding this bezel. Pull bezel straight out approximately 2 inches.
  3. 3
    Remove climate control mounting screws
With the bezel pulled forward, locate the four Phillips or Torx T20 screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard frame (two on each side). Remove all four screws and set aside. Note their locations as they may be different lengths.

  4. 4
    Disconnect electrical connectors
Carefully pull the climate control module forward from the dashboard opening. Locate the main electrical connector on the rear of the module. Press the locking tab and pull connector straight off. If equipped with automatic climate control, there may be two connectors - disconnect both. Support the module while disconnecting to prevent dropping.
  5. 5
    Remove old climate control module
With all connectors disconnected, remove the climate control module completely from the dashboard. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage. Clean the mounting surface if necessary.
  6. 6
    Install new climate control module
Position the new climate control module near the dashboard opening. Connect the electrical connector(s) to the rear of the new module, ensuring the locking tabs click firmly into place. Verify connections are secure by gently tugging on the connectors.
  7. 7
    Secure module with mounting screws
Carefully guide the climate control module into the dashboard opening, aligning the mounting screw holes. Install all four mounting screws and tighten to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Do not overtighten as the module housing is plastic.

  8. 8
    Reinstall climate control bezel
Position the climate control bezel over the module and align all edges with the dashboard opening. Press firmly around the perimeter until all retaining clips snap into place. Ensure the bezel is flush with surrounding trim and all gaps are even.
  9. 9
    Reinstall lower console trim
Reconnect any electrical connectors to the lower console trim panel. Position the panel and align it with the console opening. Press firmly around all edges until retaining clips engage. Verify panel is secure and sits flush with adjacent trim.
  10. 10
    Reconnect battery and test operation
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Test all climate control functions including fan speeds, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and air conditioning. Verify all buttons and knobs operate smoothly with proper display illumination.

Reassembly

  1. Replace any broken trim clips with new ones before reinstalling panels
  2. Ensure all trim panels are properly aligned and seated before pressing clips into place
  3. Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster after battery reconnection

Verification

  • Confirm all fan speed settings function correctly from low to high
  • Test temperature control operates smoothly throughout full range
  • Verify air flows from correct vents in all mode selections (defrost, floor, panel, bi-level)
  • Check that air conditioning compressor engages when AC button is pressed
  • Ensure all displays and indicator lights illuminate properly
  • Verify recirculation and fresh air modes switch correctly
  • Confirm no unusual noises from dashboard area during operation
