Preparation

    Install new manifold gasket and position manifold
    Position the new exhaust manifold gasket onto the cylinder head studs, ensuring proper alignment with all exhaust ports. Carefully position the exhaust manifold onto the studs, guiding it over all 8 studs. Ensure the manifold is fully seated against the gasket and cylinder head.

    Install and torque manifold nuts
    Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of each manifold nut. Thread all 8 nuts onto the studs by hand to prevent cross-threading. Using a torque wrench, tighten the nuts in the proper sequence (consult service manual): start from the center cylinders (2 and 3) and work outward to cylinders 1 and 4, alternating side to side. Torque to specification in 2-3 passes, reaching final torque on the last pass.
    Follow the proper tightening sequence to prevent manifold warping and exhaust leaks. Uneven torque can crack the manifold.
