Replace the fog light bulb on a 2015 Kia Forte by accessing the bulb assembly from the wheel well area behind the front bumper.

Warnings

Do not touch the glass portion of the new halogen bulb with bare fingers. Oil from skin will cause hot spots and premature bulb failure.
Ensure vehicle is securely supported on jack stands before working underneath or in wheel wells.
ℹ️Allow fog lights to cool for at least 15 minutes before beginning work if recently used.

Parts

  • H8 fog light bulb (35W) × 1 — Use OEM specification or quality aftermarket equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Turn off ignition and remove key
  4. Allow fog lights to cool if recently operated

Procedure

  1. 1
Raise vehicle and remove wheel (optional but recommended)
For easier access, lift the front of the vehicle on the side requiring bulb replacement using a jack. Secure with jack stand under the frame rail. Remove the front wheel on the affected side using a 21mm socket to provide better access to the wheel well liner. This step can be skipped if you can access the liner with the wheel on by turning the steering wheel fully.
  2. 2
    Remove wheel well liner fasteners
Locate the plastic push-pin fasteners and screws securing the front portion of the inner wheel well liner. Remove approximately 3-4 push-pin fasteners along the front edge of the liner using a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool. Pry the center pin up first, then remove the entire fastener.
  3. 3
    Pull back wheel well liner
Gently pull the front section of the wheel well liner away from the bumper to expose the rear of the fog light housing. You only need to create enough clearance to access the bulb socket behind the fog light assembly. Do not force or completely remove the liner.
  4. 4
    Disconnect fog light bulb connector
Locate the fog light bulb socket on the back of the fog light housing. It will have a wiring connector attached. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the bulb socket. Use a flashlight to clearly see the connector orientation.
  5. 5
    Remove fog light bulb socket
Grip the bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (about 30-45 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out with the old bulb still attached.
  6. 6
    Remove old bulb from socket
The H8 bulb is typically a twist-lock or pull-out style depending on socket design. If twist-lock, rotate the bulb counterclockwise and pull out. If pull-out style, grip the bulb base and pull straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.
  7. 7
    Install new fog light bulb
Wearing clean gloves or using a clean cloth, handle the new H8 bulb only by its base. Insert the new bulb into the socket, ensuring proper alignment of any tabs or notches. If twist-lock style, rotate clockwise until secure. Verify the bulb is firmly seated in the socket.
  8. 8
    Reinstall bulb socket into housing
Insert the bulb socket back into the fog light housing, aligning the tabs properly. Rotate the socket clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. The socket should be secure and not rotate freely.
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector back onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to ensure it is securely attached and will not come loose.
  10. 10
    Test fog light operation
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to run). Activate the fog lights using the dashboard control and verify the new bulb illuminates properly. If it does not work, verify all connections are secure and the bulb is properly seated.
  11. 11
    Reinstall wheel well liner
Position the wheel well liner back into its original location against the bumper. Reinstall all push-pin fasteners by inserting the fastener body first, then pressing the center pin down until flush. Ensure the liner is properly secured and aligned.
  12. 12
    Reinstall wheel and lower vehicle
If the wheel was removed, reinstall it and hand-tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Lower the vehicle from the jack stand and remove the stand. With the vehicle on the ground, torque the lug nuts to specification (typically 80-95 lb-ft) in a star pattern. Remove jack and wheel chocks.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all wheel well liner fasteners are properly installed and secure
  2. Verify wheel lug nuts are torqued to specification if wheel was removed
  3. Confirm no tools or parts are left in the wheel well area

Verification

  • Turn on fog lights and verify both fog lights illuminate with equal brightness
  • Perform a visual inspection to ensure the fog light beam pattern appears correct
  • Check that all wheel well liner fasteners are secure and the liner is properly positioned
  • Test fog lights again after a short test drive to ensure vibration has not loosened connections
