Parts
- Instrument cluster assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or verified replacement
- Dashboard trim clips (if damaged) × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Wait 3 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts
- Adjust steering wheel to lowest and fully extended position for access
Procedure
- 1Remove lower steering column coverLocate the two screws on the underside of the lower steering column cover. Remove both screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Gently pull the lower cover downward and away from the column to release the retaining clips. Set cover and screws aside in a safe location.
- 2Remove upper steering column coverWith lower cover removed, locate the screws securing the upper steering column cover. Remove screws and carefully lift the upper cover upward, releasing the clips at the rear of the cover. Disconnect any wiring harnesses for switches if applicable. Remove and set aside.
- 3Remove instrument cluster bezelUse panel removal tools to carefully pry the instrument cluster bezel away from the dashboard, starting at the lower edge. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining clips (approximately 8-10 clips). Once clips are released, pull the bezel forward and disconnect the hazard switch connector on the right side. Remove bezel completely.⚠Apply even pressure when removing bezel to avoid cracking plastic or breaking clips
- 4Remove instrument cluster mounting boltsLocate the four mounting bolts securing the instrument cluster to the dashboard frame (two on top, two on bottom). Use a 10mm socket to remove all four bolts. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 5Extract instrument clusterCarefully pull the instrument cluster forward from the dashboard opening approximately 4-6 inches. Support the cluster with one hand while working. You will see multiple electrical connectors on the rear of the cluster.⚠Do not pull cluster too far forward as wiring harnesses have limited slack
- 6Disconnect electrical connectorsLocate the main wiring harness connector (large white or gray connector) on the back of the cluster. Press the release tab and pull connector straight out. Disconnect any additional smaller connectors present. Note the orientation and position of each connector for reinstallation.ℹ️Take a photo of connector positions before removal to aid in reinstallation
- 7Remove old instrument clusterWith all electrical connections disconnected, fully remove the instrument cluster from the dashboard. Inspect the cluster opening for any debris or damaged clips. Clean the area if necessary.
- 8Install new instrument clusterPosition the new instrument cluster near the dashboard opening. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the rear of the cluster, ensuring each connector clicks firmly into place and matches the positions noted during removal. Verify all connectors are fully seated.
- 9Secure instrument clusterCarefully guide the instrument cluster into the dashboard opening, ensuring no wiring is pinched. Align the mounting holes with the dashboard frame. Install all four mounting bolts and torque to specification using a torque wrench.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall instrument cluster bezelReconnect the hazard switch connector to the bezel. Position the bezel over the instrument cluster and align all clips with their corresponding slots in the dashboard. Press firmly around the entire perimeter until all clips snap into place. Verify bezel is flush and secure.
- 11Reinstall steering column coversPosition the upper steering column cover over the column, reconnecting any switch wiring if applicable. Install retaining screws. Position the lower cover and secure with its two screws. Ensure both covers fit properly with no gaps.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 12Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Turn ignition to ON position (do not start engine). Verify that the instrument cluster illuminates, all gauges perform their startup sweep, and all warning lights function properly. Check that the speedometer displays correctly (should show 0 mph).ℹ️If cluster shows incorrect mileage or displays error messages, dealer programming may be requiredTorque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all dashboard trim pieces are properly aligned and all clips are fully engaged
- Verify no wiring is pinched between cluster and dashboard frame
- Return steering wheel to normal driving position
- Reset clock and radio presets as needed
- Recalibrate power window auto-up/down function if necessary by rolling windows fully down, then fully up and holding switch for 2 seconds
Verification
- Start engine and verify speedometer reads 0 mph at idle
- Test drive vehicle and confirm speedometer accurately displays road speed
- Verify all warning lights illuminate during startup and extinguish appropriately
- Check that odometer displays correct mileage (if cluster required programming, verify dealer has set correct mileage)
- Confirm tachometer, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge all function properly
- Test all dashboard illumination levels with dimmer switch
- Verify trip computer and multifunction display operate correctly
