Replace the front turn signal bulb by accessing the bulb assembly from under the hood without removing the entire headlight assembly.

Warnings

Allow bulbs to cool for at least 10 minutes if vehicle was recently operated to avoid burns
ℹ️Avoid touching halogen bulb glass with bare fingers as skin oils can cause premature failure; use clean gloves or shop towel

Tools required

Shop towels or gloves
Flashlight or work light

Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440 type) × 1 — Use OEM specification or equivalent 7440A amber bulb

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
  2. Engage parking brake
  3. Open hood and secure with hood prop

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate turn signal bulb housing
From the engine bay, locate the turn signal bulb housing at the outer corner of the headlight assembly. The turn signal is positioned closest to the fender on the lower portion of the headlight unit. Identify the bulb socket with wiring harness attached.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Press the release tab on the electrical connector and pull straight back to disconnect the wiring harness from the turn signal bulb socket. Set the connector aside where it will not contact hot engine components.
  3. 3
    Remove bulb socket
Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the headlight assembly. Pull the socket straight out with the bulb still installed.
  4. 4
    Remove failed bulb
Press the bulb straight into the socket while turning counterclockwise to release it from the socket's bayonet mount. Pull the old bulb straight out and inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage. Clean socket contacts if necessary with electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry.
  5. 5
    Install new bulb
Using a clean shop towel or gloves, align the new 7440 amber turn signal bulb pins with the socket slots. Press the bulb straight in and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Gently tug to verify the bulb is secured in the socket.
  6. 6
    Reinstall bulb socket assembly
Insert the socket with new bulb straight into the headlight assembly opening, aligning the tabs. Rotate the socket clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. The socket should sit flush and secure against the housing.
  7. 7
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector straight onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel a positive click, confirming the locking tab has engaged. Gently pull on the connector to verify it is secure.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all wiring is routed away from hot engine components and moving parts
  2. Close hood securely

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Activate turn signals in both directions and verify the replaced bulb illuminates amber and flashes at proper rate
  • Activate hazard lights and confirm proper operation
  • Walk around vehicle to visually confirm turn signal brightness matches opposite side
  • Verify dashboard turn signal indicator flashes at normal rate (if bulb failed or incorrect type is installed, dash indicator may flash rapidly)
