Procedure
- 1Remove glove box assemblyOpen glove box door fully. Remove glove box door stop by squeezing sides inward and unhooking from tabs. Remove screws securing glove box assembly to dashboard using Torx T20 bit. Disconnect glove box lamp electrical connector if equipped. Carefully remove entire glove box assembly and set aside.
- 2Remove passenger side lower trim panelLocate and remove lower dashboard trim panel below glove box area. Use trim panel removal tools to carefully release retaining clips around perimeter. Start at bottom edge and work upward. Remove any fasteners if present, then pull panel away from dashboard. Set panel aside in safe location.Torque specDashboard Fasteners4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 3Remove upper dashboard trim panelLocate upper trim panel above glove box area that covers airbag access. Use trim panel removal tools to release clips along edges. This panel typically has 4-6 retaining clips. Work carefully to avoid breaking clips. Remove panel to expose airbag module mounting area.Torque specDashboard Fasteners4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 4Access airbag electrical connectorLocate the yellow airbag electrical connector behind the dashboard. Yellow connectors indicate airbag system components. Note the connector locking mechanism - typically a sliding lock or squeeze-tab design. Do not disconnect yet.
- 5Disconnect airbag electrical connectorSlide the yellow connector lock to the unlock position. Carefully disconnect the yellow airbag electrical connector from the passenger airbag module. Do not pull on wires - grasp connector body only. Secure loose connector away from work area.⚠️Ensure battery has been disconnected for minimum 2 minutes before performing this step. Verify ignition is OFF.
- 6Remove airbag module mounting boltsLocate the airbag module mounting bolts - typically 4 bolts in corners of module accessed from behind dashboard. Use Torx T30 bit to remove all airbag module mounting bolts. Keep bolts organized as they are specific torque-critical fasteners. Support airbag module while removing final bolt.⚠️Support airbag module to prevent it from falling when final bolt is removed.Torque specAirbag Module Bolts7 Nm (5 lb-ft)
- 7Remove passenger airbag moduleCarefully pull passenger airbag module straight back out of dashboard opening. Module will be heavy (approximately 10-15 lbs). Keep deployment side (passenger side) pointed away from your body at all times during removal. Immediately place removed airbag on flat surface with deployment side facing UP.⚠️Never point airbag deployment side toward yourself or others. Always keep deployment side facing up when storing.
- 8Inspect mounting areaInspect airbag mounting bracket and surrounding dashboard structure for cracks, damage, or deformation. Check that all mounting bolt threads are clean and undamaged. Verify yellow electrical connector on vehicle harness is not damaged, corroded, or has pushed-back pins. Clean mounting surface if necessary.⚠Do not proceed if mounting bracket is damaged or deformed. Structural integrity is critical for proper airbag deployment.
- 9Position new airbag moduleRemove new passenger airbag module from packaging. Verify it is correct part number for 2014 Ram 2500. Orient module correctly with mounting holes aligned to bracket. Carefully insert new airbag module into dashboard opening, ensuring it seats flush against mounting surface. Do not force - module should slide in easily when properly aligned.⚠️Handle new airbag module carefully. Never drop, strike, or expose to static electricity.
- 10Install airbag module mounting boltsStart all four airbag module mounting bolts by hand using Torx T30 bit. Ensure bolts thread smoothly without cross-threading. Tighten bolts in cross pattern (opposite corners) to ensure even seating. Use calibrated torque wrench to torque all bolts to specification in cross pattern. Double-check each bolt reaches proper torque.⚠️Critical torque specification must be followed exactly. Under-torque can cause deployment failure. Over-torque can cause unwanted deployment.Torque specAirbag Module Bolts7 Nm (5 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect airbag electrical connectorRetrieve yellow airbag electrical connector from vehicle harness. Inspect connector for damage. Align connector with mating connector on airbag module. Push connectors together firmly until they click and lock. Slide connector lock to locked position. Gently tug on connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.⚠Ensure connector lock is fully engaged. Loose connection will cause airbag warning light and system malfunction.
- 12Reinstall dashboard trim panelsReinstall upper dashboard trim panel above airbag module, aligning all retaining clips. Press firmly around perimeter until all clips engage with audible clicks. Reinstall lower dashboard trim panel using same process. Install any fasteners finger-tight first, then torque to specification using torque wrench if applicable.Torque specDashboard Fasteners4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 13Reinstall glove box assemblyReconnect glove box lamp electrical connector if equipped. Position glove box assembly into dashboard opening and align mounting holes. Install glove box mounting screws and tighten using Torx T20 bit. Reinstall glove box door stop by hooking onto tabs. Open and close glove box to verify proper operation.
- 14Reconnect battery and initialize systemReconnect positive battery cable first, then negative battery cable. Tighten battery terminal connections securely. Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Airbag warning light should illuminate for approximately 6-8 seconds then extinguish. If light remains on or flashes, there is a system fault requiring scan tool diagnosis.⚠Do not start engine or drive vehicle if airbag warning light remains illuminated. System fault must be diagnosed and cleared.Torque specTerminal Bolts9 Nm (7 lb-ft)
