Parts
- Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Fog light bulb (if not included with assembly) × 1 — H10 or 9145 bulb type
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off ignition and all lights, allow fog lights to cool if recently used
- For easier access, turn steering wheel fully in opposite direction of fog light being replaced
- Optional: Raise and support front of vehicle on jack stands for improved underneath access
Procedure
- 1Access fog light assemblyDepending on which fog light is being replaced, turn the steering wheel fully to the opposite side (left fog light = turn wheel right). Locate the fog light assembly behind the lower front bumper fascia. Access may be from the wheel well or from underneath the vehicle.
- 2Remove wheel well liner fasteners (if accessing from wheel well)If accessing through the wheel well, remove the plastic push pins and 7mm screws securing the front portion of the inner fender liner. Pull the liner back to expose the rear of the fog light assembly. You only need to create enough clearance to reach the fog light, not remove the entire liner.
- 3Disconnect fog light electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector at the rear of the fog light assembly. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect. If the connector is difficult to access, you may need to reach from underneath the vehicle.
- 4Remove fog light mounting fastenersLocate the fog light assembly mounting screws or bolts (typically 10mm). Most Ram 2500 fog lights are secured by 2-3 screws accessed from behind the bumper. Remove all mounting fasteners and retain for reinstallation.Torque specCover Screws15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 5Remove fog light assemblyCarefully pull the fog light assembly rearward (away from the bumper) to disengage any clips or tabs. Maneuver the assembly through the bumper opening. Note the orientation and any alignment tabs for reinstallation.
- 6Transfer bulb if necessaryIf the replacement fog light assembly does not include a bulb, remove the bulb from the old housing by rotating the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pulling straight out. Install the bulb into the new fog light assembly by reversing this process. Avoid touching the glass portion of the bulb.
- 7Install new fog light assemblyPosition the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening, ensuring alignment tabs are properly seated. The assembly should sit flush with the bumper fascia. Maneuver into position so mounting holes align with the bumper bracket.
- 8Install mounting fastenersInstall all fog light mounting screws and tighten to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure the fog light is properly seated and aligned in the bumper opening before final tightening. Over-tightening can crack the plastic housing.Torque specCover Screws15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly into the rear of the fog light assembly until you hear or feel a positive click, indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify secure connection.
- 10Reinstall wheel well liner (if removed)If the inner fender liner was displaced, reposition it and reinstall all push pins and 7mm screws to secure it in place. Ensure the liner is properly seated and does not interfere with tire rotation.
Reassembly
- Verify all mounting fasteners are torqued to specification
- Ensure electrical connector is fully seated and locked
- Confirm fog light assembly is flush and properly aligned with bumper fascia
- Reinstall any removed wheel well liner components
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using the dashboard switch
- Visually confirm the new fog light illuminates with proper beam pattern
- Check that fog light assembly is secure with no rattles or movement
- Inspect for proper alignment with opposite side fog light
- Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster
