Parts
- Headlight switch assembly × 1 — Mopar 68110877AC or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle
- Disconnect negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts
- Wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Adjust steering wheel to lowest position for better access
Procedure
- 1Remove Lower Dash PanelLocate and remove the lower knee bolster panel beneath the steering column. Remove plastic trim fasteners by prying gently with trim tool, then remove the retaining screws. Lower the panel carefully to avoid breaking clips.
- 2Access Headlight Switch ModuleWith the lower panel removed, identify the headlight switch module on the left side of the steering column. The switch is integrated into the instrument panel bezel assembly on the driver's side.
- 3Remove Instrument Panel End CapRemove the driver's side instrument panel end cap by pulling it straight out from the dash. This plastic trim piece covers the side mounting area and typically has several retention clips.
- 4Remove Switch Bezel ScrewsLocate and remove the mounting screws securing the switch bezel to the instrument panel. There are typically 2-3 screws accessible once the end cap is removed. Keep track of screw locations as they may be different lengths.
- 5Pull Switch Assembly ForwardGently pull the headlight switch bezel assembly forward away from the instrument panel. Do not pull too far as electrical connectors are still attached to the rear of the switch assembly.
- 6Disconnect Electrical ConnectorLocate the main electrical connector on the back of the headlight switch. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.⚠Do not force the connector; ensure locking tab is fully depressed before pulling
- 7Remove Old Headlight SwitchWith the connector disconnected, remove the headlight switch assembly completely from the vehicle. Inspect the connector terminals for corrosion or damage.
- 8Install New Headlight SwitchConnect the electrical connector to the new headlight switch assembly by aligning the connector and pressing firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector.
- 9Reinstall Switch BezelPosition the headlight switch bezel assembly back into the instrument panel opening. Align the mounting holes and install the retaining screws. Tighten screws evenly to avoid cracking the bezel.
- 10Reinstall Trim PanelsReinstall the driver's side instrument panel end cap by pressing it into place until all clips engage. Reinstall the lower knee bolster panel and secure with all fasteners and screws.
- 11Reconnect BatteryReconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal. Ensure the cable is seated properly on the terminal post before tightening.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are fully seated and all clips are engaged before testing
- Check that no tools or parts were left under the dash panel
- Reset clock and radio presets as needed
- Perform window auto-up/down re-initialization if required by cycling each window fully down then fully up while holding the switch
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and verify headlight switch illumination
- Test all headlight switch positions: parking lights, headlights, and AUTO mode if equipped
- Verify instrument panel dimmer function works properly
- Test fog light switch operation if equipped
- Confirm all dash warning lights illuminate normally during bulb check
- Verify no new warning messages appear in the instrument cluster
