Parts
- Side mirror assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification for power/heated/towing mirrors
- Mirror mounting gasket × 1 — Typically included with mirror assembly
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Roll down window on affected side to access interior door panel
- Have clean workspace ready to place removed mirror assembly
Procedure
- 1Access interior door panel componentsOpen the door fully. Use trim panel removal tool to carefully pry off the small triangular trim cover located at the front upper corner of the door panel where it meets the mirror base. This cover conceals the mirror mounting bolts and electrical connector.
- 2Disconnect mirror electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector behind the trim panel. Press the connector lock tab and carefully pull the connector apart. For power folding mirrors, there will be a larger multi-pin connector. If connector is difficult to separate, spray with electrical contact cleaner and gently wiggle while pulling.
- 3Remove mirror mounting boltsLocate the three Torx T30 mounting bolts securing the mirror base to the door frame. While supporting the mirror assembly from the outside with your other hand or having an assistant hold it, remove all three bolts completely. Note the position of any spacers or washers.
- 4Remove mirror assemblyCarefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door, feeding the wiring harness through the door opening. Remove the old gasket from the door mounting surface if it did not come off with the mirror. Clean the mounting surface on the door with a clean cloth to ensure proper seal.
- 5Prepare new mirror assemblyInspect the new mirror assembly for shipping damage. If a new gasket is included, position it on the back of the mirror base aligning all three mounting holes. Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to the electrical connector pins on the mirror side to prevent corrosion.
- 6Install new mirror assemblyFeed the wiring harness through the door opening from outside. Align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Ensure the gasket is properly positioned between the mirror and door. Hand-start all three mounting bolts before tightening any of them.
- 7Torque mirror mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench with T30 Torx bit, tighten the three mounting bolts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. Torque to specification per the Mounting Bolts value. Verify the mirror sits flush against the door with no gaps in the gasket seal.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector together firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on both sides of the connector to verify it is fully locked. Ensure no wires are pinched between the door panel and mirror base.
- 9Reinstall trim panelAlign the triangular trim cover with its mounting clips on the door panel. Press firmly around all edges until all clips are fully seated and the panel is flush with surrounding trim.
- 10Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Turn ignition to the ON position without starting engine. Test all mirror functions including power adjustment in all directions, heating element if equipped, and power folding if equipped.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connectors are fully locked and no wires are pinched
- Verify mirror gasket is properly sealed with no gaps around perimeter
- If equipped with power folding mirrors, perform mirror calibration using appropriate scan tool per manufacturer procedure
Verification
- Test mirror adjustment in all directions for smooth operation with no binding
- Check heated mirror function by running engine and activating rear defrost (mirrors heat with rear defrost on Ram 2500)
- Verify power folding operation completes full cycle if equipped
- Inspect mirror mounting area for proper alignment and no gaps in gasket
- Confirm no warning lights on instrument cluster related to mirror functions
- Test at highway speed to ensure mirror is secure with no vibration or movement
