This procedure covers the removal and installation of the factory subwoofer assembly located in the center console of a 2014 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins Diesel engine.

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal using 10mm wrench and isolate cable away from terminal
  3. Wait minimum 2 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge
  4. Ensure interior is clean and free of debris that could fall into console opening
  5. Have container ready for small fasteners and clips

    Remove center console cup holder assembly
    Open the center console lid. Remove any items from the cup holder area. Using a panel removal tool, carefully pry up the cup holder insert starting from the rear edge. Lift the cup holder assembly up and out of the console. Disconnect any electrical connectors if equipped with heated cup holders by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back.

    Remove console side trim panels
    Locate the trim panels on both sides of the center console behind the front seats. Use panel removal tool to release the retaining clips along the outer edge. Pull each panel away from the console body. Set panels aside in a safe location to prevent scratches.

    Remove console mounting fasteners
    Using a T20 Torx bit, remove the two front mounting screws located under the cup holder area. Remove the two rear mounting screws accessible from the side trim panel areas. Keep all fasteners organized for reinstallation.

    Disconnect subwoofer electrical connector
    Reach under the rear of the center console and locate the subwoofer harness connector. Press the red locking tab and squeeze the connector release tabs simultaneously. Pull the connector straight back from the subwoofer to disconnect. If equipped with multiple connectors, note their positions.

    Remove subwoofer mounting bolts
    Using a 10mm socket with extension, remove the four subwoofer mounting bolts securing the subwoofer assembly to the console frame. Support the subwoofer with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from dropping.

    Extract subwoofer assembly
    Carefully lift the subwoofer assembly up and out of the console cavity. Angle the subwoofer as needed to clear the console opening. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage. If replacing the unit, transfer any necessary mounting hardware from the old unit to the new one.

    Install new or serviced subwoofer
    Position the subwoofer assembly into the console cavity, ensuring the electrical connector access is toward the rear. Align the mounting holes with the console frame. Thread in all four mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment before tightening.

    Reinstall trim panels and cup holder
    Align the side trim panels with the console body and press firmly until all retaining clips snap into place. Position the cup holder assembly into the console opening, reconnect any electrical connectors if equipped, and press down firmly until it seats completely. Verify all trim pieces are flush and properly secured.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and locked in place
  2. Verify all trim panels and clips are properly seated with no gaps
  3. Confirm console is stable and does not rattle or move when pushed
  4. Return any removed items to their original storage locations

Verification

  • Turn ignition to accessory position and play audio through all speakers including subwoofer
  • Adjust bass levels to maximum and verify subwoofer produces sound without distortion or rattles
  • Check that all console trim pieces are secure and properly aligned
  • Verify cup holder operates smoothly and all electrical functions work if equipped
  • Confirm no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
