Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb (3157 or 3157A amber) × 1 — 3157A Amber

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off ignition and remove key
  3. Allow front turn signal bulbs to cool if recently used
  4. Open and secure hood

Procedure

  1. 1
Locate the turn signal bulb socket
From the engine bay, locate the turn signal bulb socket on the backside of the headlight assembly. The turn signal socket is typically the outermost socket on the headlight assembly, closest to the fender. It will have a gray or black plastic connector attached.
  2. 2
    Disconnect the electrical connector
Press the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off the bulb socket. You may need to wiggle it gently while pulling if it is tight from corrosion or age.
  3. 3
    Remove the bulb socket
Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it stops. Pull the socket straight out from the headlight housing. The socket and bulb will come out as one assembly.
  4. 4
    Remove the old bulb
Press the bulb into the socket slightly while rotating it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until the pins align with the slots in the socket. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage.
  5. 5
    Install the new bulb
Insert the new 3157A amber bulb into the socket, aligning the offset pins with the slots. Press the bulb in slightly and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is securely seated and cannot be pulled out easily.
  6. 6
    Reinstall the bulb socket
Insert the bulb socket assembly back into the headlight housing, aligning the tabs. Rotate the socket clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Gently tug on the socket to verify it is fully seated.
  7. 7
    Reconnect the electrical connector
Push the electrical connector onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel it click into place. Ensure the connection is secure and the release tab is fully engaged.

Reassembly

  1. No disassembly was required for this procedure

Verification

  • Turn ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Activate the turn signal on the side where the bulb was replaced
  • Verify the front turn signal flashes at normal speed (approximately 60-90 flashes per minute)
  • Walk around the vehicle and confirm the side marker light is also flashing in sync
  • Test hazard lights to verify both sides flash properly
  • Close and secure the hood
