Replace the rear turn signal bulb by accessing the tail light assembly from inside the bed or by removing the tail light housing from the rear of the vehicle.

Warnings

Allow bulbs to cool completely before removal to avoid burns
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of new bulbs with bare hands as skin oils can reduce bulb life

Tools required

Flathead screwdriver
Ratchet with socket set
Clean cloth or gloves

Parts

  • Rear turn signal bulb (3157 or 7443) × 1 — Use OEM specification or equivalent amber bulb

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off all lights and remove key from ignition
  3. Open tailgate for better access to tail light assembly
  4. Identify which side requires bulb replacement

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access tail light assembly
From inside the bed, locate the tail light assembly access panel or fasteners. On 2014 Ram 2500, you may need to remove plastic bed liner clips or fasteners to access the back of the tail light housing. Some models allow access directly through an opening behind the tail light.
  2. 2
Remove tail light housing (if necessary)
If direct bulb access is not available, remove the tail light assembly mounting fasteners from the outside. Typically there are 2-3 bolts or nuts accessible from the rear edge of the bed or behind the bumper. Carefully pull the tail light assembly straight back from the body to disengage any clips.
  3. 3
    Disconnect bulb socket
Locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the tail light assembly. The turn signal is typically the amber-colored lens section. Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it straight out from the housing.
  4. 4
    Remove old bulb
Depending on bulb type, either push the bulb in slightly and rotate counterclockwise to remove (bayonet style), or pull the bulb straight out of the socket (wedge style). Inspect the socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage. Clean contacts with a dry cloth if necessary.
  5. 5
    Install new bulb
Using a clean cloth or while wearing gloves, insert the new turn signal bulb into the socket. For bayonet style, align the pins and push in while rotating clockwise until it locks. For wedge style, push straight in until fully seated. Ensure the bulb is secure and making good electrical contact.
  6. 6
    Test bulb operation
Before reassembling, turn the ignition to the ON position and test the turn signal to verify the new bulb illuminates properly. Check both the turn signal and hazard light functions. If bulb does not light, verify proper installation and socket connection.
  7. 7
    Reinstall bulb socket and housing
Insert the bulb socket back into the tail light housing and rotate clockwise to lock in place. If the tail light assembly was removed, align it with the mounting holes and body panel, engage any alignment clips, and reinstall all mounting fasteners hand-tight, then secure them properly.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all tail light mounting fasteners are tightened securely but do not overtighten plastic housings
  2. Verify tail light housing is flush with body panel and all clips are fully engaged
  3. Replace any bed liner clips or access panels that were removed
  4. Close tailgate and verify clearance

Verification

  • With ignition ON, activate left and right turn signals and verify proper flashing rate and brightness
  • Test hazard lights to confirm both rear turn signals flash simultaneously
  • Walk around vehicle to visually confirm both rear turn signals are working
  • Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster indicating bulb failure
