Parts

  • Front window regulator with motor assembly × 1 — Mopar 68089383AA or equivalent
  • Door panel retaining clips (assorted) × 1 — Replace any broken clips
  • Window channel adhesive (if needed) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  3. Roll window fully up if possible before beginning work
  4. Ensure you have the correct replacement regulator for driver or passenger side as specified

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect battery negative terminal
Using a 10mm socket, loosen the negative battery terminal bolt and remove the cable from the battery post. Secure the cable away from the battery to prevent accidental reconnection. Wait at least 2 minutes for the airbag system to fully discharge before proceeding.

  2. 2
    Remove door panel fasteners
Remove the door pull handle cover by prying gently with a trim tool. Remove the two screws behind the handle. Remove the sail panel trim at the front upper corner of the door. Remove any screws from the door panel perimeter (typically located at bottom edge and behind door handle). Use trim removal tool to carefully release all retaining clips around the door panel perimeter, working from bottom to top.
  3. 3
Disconnect electrical connections and remove door panel
Lift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill. Disconnect all electrical connectors including window switch, door lock switch, and courtesy lamp. Disconnect any speaker connectors if equipped. Remove door panel and set aside on a protected surface. Carefully peel back the water barrier membrane, preserving it for reinstallation.
  4. 4
Support and secure the window glass
If the window is not already fully raised, manually lift the glass to the full up position. Use wide masking tape to secure the glass to the door frame at the top, or install window wedges to prevent the glass from falling. Ensure the glass is stable and will not drop when the regulator is disconnected.
Glass must be securely supported before proceeding. Unsupported glass can fall and shatter when regulator is removed.
  5. 5
    Disconnect window glass from regulator
Locate the bolts or clips securing the window glass to the regulator lift channel (typically two bolts accessible through access holes in the door frame). Remove these fasteners and carefully separate the glass from the regulator assembly. The glass should remain in the raised and secured position.

  6. 6
    Disconnect regulator electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector on the regulator assembly. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the motor. Ensure the connector is fully separated and out of the way.
  7. 7
    Remove regulator mounting fasteners
Locate all regulator mounting bolts (typically 6-8 bolts or rivets securing the regulator to the inner door structure). If bolts are used, remove them with appropriate socket. If rivets are used, drill them out carefully with a 1/8" drill bit, taking care not to damage the door structure. Note the position and number of fasteners for reinstallation.
Regulator is under spring tension. Control the assembly as fasteners are removed to prevent sudden movement.

  8. 8
    Remove regulator assembly from door
Carefully maneuver the regulator assembly out through the large access opening in the door frame. The regulator may need to be rotated or tilted to clear the door structure. Take note of the orientation for installing the new regulator. Inspect the door cavity for any debris or old clips that should be removed.
  9. 9
    Install new regulator assembly
Position the new regulator assembly and carefully guide it into the door cavity in the same orientation as the original. Align all mounting holes with the door structure. If using bolts, start all bolts by hand before tightening. If using rivets, install per manufacturer instructions. Tighten all mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even seating.

  10. 10
    Connect regulator electrical connector
Reconnect the window motor electrical connector to the wiring harness. Ensure the connector locks securely with an audible click. Verify the connector is fully seated.
  11. 11
    Attach window glass to regulator
Remove the tape or wedges securing the glass. Lower the glass carefully and align the bottom edge with the regulator lift channels. Install the mounting bolts or clips securing the glass to the regulator. Tighten fasteners to specification, ensuring the glass is level and properly seated in both channels.

  12. 12
Reconnect battery and test window operation
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Before reinstalling the door panel, turn the ignition to the ON position and test the window operation using the window switch. Verify the window moves smoothly up and down through full travel without binding or unusual noise. Check for proper auto-up and auto-down function if equipped.

  13. 13
    Perform window calibration if required
If the window auto-up/down or anti-pinch functions do not work properly, perform the window calibration procedure: Roll the window all the way down, hold the switch down for 2 seconds, roll the window all the way up, hold the switch up for 2 seconds. This recalibrates the window position sensor.
ℹ️Some vehicles may require a dealer scan tool to properly calibrate window functions.
  14. 14
Reinstall water barrier and door panel
Press the water barrier membrane back into place, ensuring all edges are properly sealed to prevent water intrusion. Position the door panel and reconnect all electrical connectors (window switch, door lock, speaker, courtesy lamp). Align the panel at the window sill and lower into position. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reinstall all screws and covers removed during disassembly.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all door panel clips are properly seated to prevent rattles
  2. Verify water barrier is completely sealed to prevent water entry into door panel
  3. Test all door functions including locks, speakers, and courtesy lights after reassembly
  4. Replace any broken door panel clips to ensure secure attachment

Verification

  • Test window operation through full range of travel in both directions multiple times
  • Verify auto-up and auto-down functions work properly if equipped
  • Check that window closes fully and seals properly against weatherstrip
  • Listen for any unusual noises during window operation
  • Verify window does not bind or hesitate during travel
  • Test express up/down feature and anti-pinch function if equipped
  • Check that door panel is secure with no gaps or rattles
