Parts
- Roof antenna assembly × 1 — Toyota OEM 86337-06020 or equivalent
- Antenna base gasket/seal × 1 — Typically included with antenna assembly
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn ignition off
- Ensure radio is turned off
- Have a clean cloth or towel ready to protect headliner from dirt
Procedure
- 1Access the antenna base from interiorOpen the rear passenger door on the driver's side. Using trim removal tools, carefully pry down the rear portion of the headliner near the antenna location to expose the antenna base mounting nut. You may need to remove the dome light assembly first by gently prying it down with a trim tool, then disconnecting the electrical connector.
- 2Disconnect antenna cableLocate the antenna cable connection at the base of the antenna assembly. Press the release tab and pull the coaxial cable connector straight off the antenna base terminal. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation.
- 3Remove exterior antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, unscrew the antenna mast by turning it counterclockwise by hand. Remove the mast completely and set aside. If the mast is corroded or stuck, apply penetrating oil and wait 10 minutes before attempting removal.
- 4Remove antenna base mountingFrom inside the vehicle, use a 10mm socket with extension to remove the antenna base mounting nut. There is typically one nut securing the base to the roof panel. Support the antenna base from outside while removing the nut to prevent it from falling.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 5Remove antenna assembly from roofFrom outside the vehicle, carefully lift the antenna base assembly straight up and out of the roof opening. Remove the rubber gasket/seal from the roof opening and inspect it for damage or deterioration.
- 6Clean mounting surfaceClean the roof mounting surface around the antenna opening with a clean cloth. Remove any dirt, debris, or old sealant. Inspect the roof opening for rust or damage and address as needed before installing new antenna.
- 7Install new antenna base gasketPosition the new rubber gasket/seal onto the new antenna base assembly, ensuring it is properly seated in the groove. Verify the gasket is oriented correctly with any drain holes positioned toward the rear of the vehicle.
- 8Install new antenna assemblyFrom outside the vehicle, insert the new antenna base assembly through the roof opening, ensuring the cable passes through cleanly without pinching. Align the mounting stud with the hole in the roof panel. From inside, start the mounting nut by hand.
- 9Secure antenna baseUsing a 10mm socket and torque wrench with extension, tighten the antenna base mounting nut to specification. Ensure the base gasket is compressed evenly and the assembly sits flush against the roof panel without gaps.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect antenna cableFrom inside the vehicle, push the coaxial cable connector firmly onto the antenna base terminal until it clicks into place. Gently tug the cable to verify it is securely connected.
- 11Install antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, thread the antenna mast onto the base by turning it clockwise by hand. Tighten until snug, but do not over-tighten as this may damage the threads.
- 12Reinstall interior trimCarefully push the headliner back into position. If dome light was removed, reconnect the electrical connector and snap the assembly back into place. Ensure all trim pieces are properly seated and secured.
Reassembly
- Verify headliner and all interior trim panels are properly reinstalled and secured
- Check that antenna mast is vertical and properly tightened
- Inspect exterior base for proper seal against roof with no gaps
Verification
- Turn on the radio and test AM/FM reception on multiple stations across the dial
- Compare signal strength to pre-repair condition - should be equal or improved
- Visually inspect the roof area for any water leaks during the next car wash or rain
- Verify antenna mast is stable and does not wobble or rattle while driving
