This procedure replaces the rear engine mount on a 2012-2017 Toyota Camry with 2.5L I4 engine, which supports the rear of the engine and controls drivetrain movement during acceleration and deceleration.
Warnings
⚠️The engine must be properly supported before removing mount bolts. Failure to support the engine can result in serious injury or damage to vehicle components.
⚠Ensure vehicle is on level ground and properly supported on jack stands before working underneath.
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work to avoid burn injuries.

Parts
- Rear engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and set parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Allow engine to cool completely
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Raise vehicle and secure on jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points
- Remove plastic engine under covers if equipped for access
Procedure
- 1Support the enginePosition an engine support fixture across the engine bay, or place a transmission jack with a block of wood under the transmission oil pan. Raise slightly to take tension off the rear engine mount. The engine should be barely lifted, just enough to unload the mount.
- 2Locate the rear engine mountFrom underneath the vehicle, locate the rear engine mount at the rear of the engine block. The mount connects the engine/transmission assembly to the subframe. Identify the upper bolts connecting the mount to the engine/transmission and the lower bolts connecting to the subframe.
- 3Remove mount-to-frame boltsRemove the bolts securing the rear mount to the subframe/chassis. These are typically two or three bolts accessed from underneath. Note the bolt positions and any brackets or washers for reinstallation.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 4Remove mount through boltRemove the large through bolt that passes horizontally through the center of the mount assembly. This bolt connects the upper and lower mount sections. You may need to slightly adjust engine support height to relieve tension on this bolt.Torque specMount Through Bolt88 Nm (65 lb-ft)
- 5Remove engine-side mounting boltsRemove the bolts that attach the upper mount bracket to the engine block or transmission housing. These may require extensions and universal joints for access. Support the mount assembly as you remove the final bolt.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Remove old mount assemblyCarefully lower and remove the rear engine mount assembly from the vehicle. You may need to manipulate it at an angle to clear surrounding components. Inspect the removed mount for signs of oil contamination, cracking, or separation of rubber from metal.
- 7Prepare new mountCompare the new mount to the old mount to verify correct replacement part. Clean the mounting surfaces on the engine block and subframe using a wire brush or clean rag to remove dirt, rust, or old gasket material.
- 8Install new mount to enginePosition the new rear mount assembly into place. Start by loosely installing the upper mounting bolts that attach to the engine block or transmission. Do not fully tighten yet. Ensure any brackets or hardware are positioned correctly.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 9Install mount-to-frame boltsAlign the lower portion of the mount with the subframe mounting points. Install the mount-to-frame bolts loosely. Verify the mount is properly seated and aligned before tightening.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 10Install through boltInstall the mount through bolt that connects the upper and lower mount sections. Ensure proper alignment of all mount components. Leave this bolt slightly loose initially.Torque specMount Through Bolt88 Nm (65 lb-ft)
- 11Lower engine to normal positionCarefully lower the engine support until the engine rests naturally on the new mount. This ensures the mount is not pre-loaded in the wrong position. Remove the engine support fixture or transmission jack.
- 12Torque all mount fastenersWith the engine at rest on the mount, torque all fasteners in sequence. First torque the engine-to-block bolts to 65.0 Nm (48.0 lb-ft), then the mount-to-frame bolts to 61.0 Nm (45.0 lb-ft), and finally the through bolt to 88.0 Nm (65.0 lb-ft). Verify all fasteners are properly tightened.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)Mount Through Bolt88 Nm (65 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Reinstall any plastic engine under covers removed during disassembly
- Lower vehicle from jack stands
- Reconnect negative battery cable
- Remove wheel chocks
Verification
- Start engine and verify no abnormal vibration or noise
- With engine running, shift through all transmission gears and verify smooth operation with no excessive movement
- Perform a test drive and verify no clunking noise during acceleration or deceleration
- Visually inspect mount installation to confirm no contact with surrounding components
- Re-check torque on all mount bolts after test drive
