This procedure covers the complete removal and replacement of the power side mirror assembly on a 2012-2017 Toyota Camry 2.5L I4, including electrical connector disconnection and proper mounting.

Warnings

If the mirror has a camera (blind spot monitoring), handle the electrical connector carefully to avoid damage to expensive components.
ℹ️This procedure assumes the mirror is powered. Manual mirrors follow similar mounting but lack electrical connections.

Tools required

10mm socket and ratchetEssential
Phillips screwdriverEssential
Flat-blade trim tool set
Torque wrench (5-30 Nm range)Essential
Shop towel

Parts

  • Side mirror assembly (specify left or right) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Door panel clips (if damaged during removal) × 3 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Gather all tools and new mirror assembly
  4. Clean work area around door panel to prevent dirt from entering interior

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel speaker grille
Using a flat-blade trim tool, carefully pry up the triangular speaker grille cover located at the front upper corner of the door panel near the mirror. This cover snaps into place with clips. Start at the rear edge and work forward to avoid breaking clips.
  2. 2
    Access mirror mounting area
With the speaker grille removed, you will see the mirror base mounting area. There may be a foam insulator or weather seal that needs to be peeled back slightly to access the mounting bolts. Do not remove this completely, just fold it back for access.
  3. 3
    Disconnect mirror electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector attached to the mirror base. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. On models with blind spot monitoring or puddle lights, there may be two connectors - disconnect both. Note the routing of the wiring harness for reinstallation.
Do not pull on the wires themselves - always grip the connector body to prevent damaging the wiring harness.
  4. 4
    Remove mirror mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These bolts are arranged in a triangular pattern. Support the mirror from the outside while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.

  5. 5
    Remove mirror assembly
Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door. Thread the electrical connector and wiring harness through the opening in the door frame as you remove the mirror. Set the old mirror aside on a clean surface.
  6. 6
    Prepare new mirror assembly
Unpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the old unit (same connector type, same features). If equipped with blind spot monitoring, verify the camera connector is present. Remove any protective film or packaging from the mirror glass and housing.
  7. 7
    Install new mirror assembly
Thread the electrical connector and wiring harness through the door opening from outside. Align the three mounting holes on the mirror base with the corresponding holes in the door frame. Hand-thread all three mounting bolts before tightening any of them to ensure proper alignment.
  8. 8
    Torque mirror mounting bolts
Using a torque wrench and 10mm socket, tighten the three mounting bolts in a star pattern (alternating between bolts) to the specified torque of 27.0 Nm (20 lb-ft). This ensures even pressure distribution and proper sealing.

  9. 9
    Connect electrical connector
Route the wiring harness along the original path to avoid pinching. Connect the electrical connector(s) to the mirror assembly, ensuring you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is locked.
  10. 10
    Test mirror functions
Before reinstalling the trim pieces, turn the ignition to ON (engine does not need to run). Test all mirror functions: up, down, left, right adjustment using the door-mounted controls. If equipped, verify the mirror fold function and puddle light operation. Check that blind spot indicator (if equipped) illuminates during self-test.
ℹ️If any functions do not work, recheck the electrical connections before proceeding.
  11. 11
    Reinstall weather seal and grille
Press the foam insulator or weather seal back into its original position around the mirror base. Align the speaker grille cover with the door panel and press firmly around all edges until all clips snap into place. Ensure the grille sits flush with the door panel.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all clips on the speaker grille are fully seated and the trim piece is flush
  2. Check that no wiring is pinched between trim pieces or the door panel
  3. Inspect the mirror housing gasket to ensure proper seal against the door

Verification

  • Test all mirror adjustment functions (up, down, left, right) from the driver's seat
  • If equipped, verify mirror fold/unfold function operates smoothly
  • Check puddle light operation by unlocking the vehicle in dim lighting
  • On models with blind spot monitoring, verify the indicator light in the mirror housing illuminates when vehicles approach
  • Visually inspect the mirror mounting from outside - there should be no gaps between the mirror base and door
  • Test at low speed (parking lot) to ensure no wind noise or vibration from the mirror assembly
