This procedure relearns the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors after tire rotation, sensor replacement, or pressure adjustment on a 2012-2017 Toyota Camry with 2.5L I4 engine.

Warnings

ℹ️TPMS relearn must be performed after tire rotation, sensor replacement, or whenever the TPMS warning light is illuminated due to sensor position changes.
ℹ️Ensure all tires are inflated to the correct pressure before beginning the relearn procedure. Refer to driver door jamb placard for specifications.

Tools required

Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Air compressor or tire inflatorEssential

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
  2. Ensure ignition is OFF
  3. Verify all four tires are inflated to the pressure listed on the driver door jamb placard (typically 32-35 PSI)
  4. Ensure vehicle has been stationary for at least 2 minutes

Procedure

  1. 1
    Verify tire pressures
Use a tire pressure gauge to verify all four tires are inflated to the exact pressure specified on the driver door jamb placard. Adjust as necessary using an air compressor. All tires must be at the correct pressure for the relearn to succeed.
  2. 2
    Turn ignition to ON position
Insert key and turn ignition to ON position (or press START button twice without pressing brake pedal). Do not start the engine. Verify instrument cluster illuminates and TPMS warning light is visible.
  3. 3
    Initiate TPMS reset mode
Locate the TPMS reset button under the steering column near the hood release lever. Press and hold the TPMS reset button until the TPMS warning light blinks three times slowly (approximately 3 seconds), then release the button. The light will remain blinking to indicate the system is in registration mode.
  4. 4
    Drive vehicle to complete relearn
Start the engine and drive the vehicle at speeds between 25-65 mph for 10-30 minutes. The TPMS system will automatically detect and register all four sensors during this drive cycle. Drive on varied roads including turns to ensure all sensors are detected.
  5. 5
    Verify TPMS registration completion
After the drive cycle, turn off the engine and restart the vehicle. The TPMS warning light should illuminate briefly during startup and then turn off, indicating successful registration. If the light remains on or continues blinking, repeat the procedure from Step 2.

Reassembly

  1. No reassembly required for this procedure

Verification

  • Start the vehicle and confirm the TPMS warning light illuminates briefly during startup and then turns off completely
  • Drive the vehicle and verify individual tire pressure readings appear correctly on the multi-information display (if equipped)
  • Verify no TPMS warning messages appear on the instrument cluster
  • If TPMS light remains on, verify all tire pressures are correct and repeat the relearn procedure
