Parts
- Windshield washer pump × 1 — 85330-06050 or aftermarket equivalent
- Washer pump grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Fluids
- Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Locate washer fluid reservoir on driver side of engine bay
- Place drain pan beneath work area to catch spilled washer fluid
Procedure
- 1Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the pump. The connector may be stiff; wiggle gently if needed.
- 2Disconnect washer hoseUsing needle-nose pliers, compress the hose clamp on the rubber hose connected to the pump outlet. Slide the clamp back along the hose away from the pump. Carefully pull the hose off the pump nipple. Expect some fluid to drain from the hose.
- 3Remove washer pump from reservoirThe pump is retained in the reservoir by a rubber grommet and friction fit. Grasp the pump body firmly and twist counterclockwise while pulling outward. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry between the pump flange and reservoir opening to break the seal. Washer fluid will drain from the opening once the pump is removed.
- 4Inspect and clean grommetRemove the rubber grommet from the old pump. Inspect it for cracks, tears, or deterioration. If damaged, replace with new grommet. If reusing, clean the grommet and reservoir opening with shop towels to remove any debris or contamination.
- 5Install new washer pumpInstall the rubber grommet onto the new pump, ensuring it seats fully in the groove on the pump body. Insert the pump into the reservoir opening with the outlet nipple oriented toward the hose connection point. Press firmly and twist clockwise until the pump seats completely in the grommet. The pump should be secure with no movement.
- 6Reconnect washer hosePush the washer hose firmly onto the pump outlet nipple until it bottoms out. Slide the hose clamp forward over the connection point to secure the hose. Ensure the clamp is positioned over the hose on the nipple, not beyond it.
- 7Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the terminals on the pump and push firmly until you hear or feel a positive click. Tug gently on the connector to verify it is locked in place.
- 8Refill washer fluid reservoirFill the washer fluid reservoir with fresh windshield washer fluid to the full line, approximately 3.5 quarts. Use a funnel to avoid spills.
Reassembly
- No major reassembly required for this procedure
- Ensure all connections are secure and no tools are left in engine bay
- Wipe up any spilled washer fluid from engine bay components
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Activate windshield washer from inside vehicle and verify both nozzles spray properly
- Check for leaks at pump body, hose connection, and reservoir
- Listen for abnormal pump noise during operation
- Verify washer fluid level has not dropped below minimum after testing
- Test rear washer function if equipped to ensure correct pump was replaced
