Parts

  • Wiper/washer combination switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  2. Ensure the front wheels are pointed straight ahead and turn the ignition off.
  3. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent airbag deployment.
  4. Wait at least 90 seconds after battery disconnection before proceeding to allow airbag system to discharge.

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower steering column covers
Locate the lower steering column cover below the steering wheel. Remove the Phillips screws securing the lower cover (typically 2-3 screws). Carefully pull the lower cover away from the column and set aside.

  2. 2
    Remove upper steering column cover
With the lower cover removed, locate the upper steering column cover. Remove the Phillips screws securing the upper cover (typically 2 screws at the bottom edge). Gently separate the upper cover from the column, being mindful of any clips. Set the cover aside.

    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Locate the wiper switch connector
With the column covers removed, you will see the combination switch assembly on the left side of the steering column. Locate the electrical connector for the wiper switch. It is a multi-pin connector with a locking tab, typically gray or black in color.
ℹ️Use a flashlight to clearly identify the correct connector, as there may be multiple connectors in this area.
  4. 4
    Disconnect wiper switch electrical connector
Press the locking tab on the wiper switch connector and carefully pull the connector straight out from the switch assembly. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is difficult to remove, gently wiggle it while pressing the lock tab.
  5. 5
    Remove combination switch mounting screws
Locate the two Phillips screws securing the combination switch assembly to the steering column bracket. These screws are typically located on the back side of the switch housing. Remove both screws completely and retain them for reinstallation.

  6. 6
    Remove wiper switch assembly
With the mounting screws removed and connector disconnected, carefully slide the wiper switch assembly off the steering column. Note the orientation and position of the switch for proper installation of the new unit. Inspect the mounting area for any damage or debris.
  7. 7
    Install new wiper switch assembly
Position the new wiper switch assembly onto the steering column in the same orientation as the original. Ensure the switch body aligns properly with the mounting bracket and that the stalk moves freely without binding against any components.
  8. 8
    Install and torque mounting screws
Insert the two mounting screws and hand-tighten them to ensure proper thread engagement. Using a torque wrench, tighten the screws to 8.0 Nm (6.0 lb-ft) in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the switch assembly.

    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Align the wiper switch electrical connector and push it firmly into the switch until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely locked.
  10. 10
    Reinstall steering column covers
Position the upper steering column cover back onto the column, ensuring all alignment tabs are properly seated. Install the upper cover screws and torque to 11.0 Nm (8.0 lb-ft). Position the lower cover, align all clips and tabs, then install and torque the lower cover screws to 11.0 Nm (8.0 lb-ft).

  11. 11
    Reconnect battery and initialize systems
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque the terminal bolt to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft). Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine yet). Check for any warning lights on the instrument cluster.
Do not overtighten the battery terminal bolt as this can damage the terminal post.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all steering column covers are properly seated with no gaps or misalignment.
  2. Verify that all screws have been reinstalled and torqued to specification.
  3. Reset the clock and radio presets as needed.

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to the ON position and test all wiper switch functions: intermittent, low speed, high speed, and mist.
  • Test the washer function by activating the washer spray while wipers are operating.
  • Verify that the wiper stalk returns to the proper position after use and that all detent positions feel correct.
  • Check that no warning lights remain illuminated on the instrument cluster related to the wiper system.
  • Ensure the wiper stalk does not bind or interfere with steering wheel movement at full lock in both directions.
