Drain and replace engine oil and oil filter on 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla 1.8L I4 engine using Toyota Genuine 0W-20 oil.

• Engine oil filter cartridge × 1 — 04152-31090 or equivalent Toyota cartridge filter
• Oil drain plug crush washer × 1 — 90430-12031 or equivalent 12mm copper washer

Fluids

• Toyota Genuine 0W-20 — 4.5 qt

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Allow engine to cool for at least 30 minutes if recently operated
3. Raise front of vehicle using floor jack and secure with jack stands, or drive onto ramps
4. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning
5. Locate oil drain plug on passenger side of oil pan and oil filter housing on driver side of engine block

Procedure

   Access underside of engine
   If equipped with front skid plate or engine splash shield, remove plastic fasteners and bolts to access oil drain plug and filter housing. Some models have a removable access panel instead of full shield removal.

   Drain engine oil
   Position drain pan under oil drain plug on passenger side of oil pan. Using 14mm socket, loosen drain plug counterclockwise. Remove plug by hand for final turns and allow oil to drain completely for 5-10 minutes. Inspect drain plug threads and oil pan threads for damage.
   ⚠Oil will flow rapidly once plug is removed. Position drain pan to account for initial stream angle.
   Torque spec

   Oil Drain Plug35 Nm (26 lb-ft)

   Install drain plug with new washer
   Remove old crush washer from drain plug and discard. Install new copper crush washer onto drain plug. Thread drain plug into oil pan by hand until seated, then torque to specification using torque wrench. Wipe area clean.

   Remove oil filter housing cap
   Locate oil filter housing on driver side of engine block near front. Position drain pan under housing to catch residual oil. Using 64mm oil filter wrench, turn black plastic housing cap counterclockwise to remove. Some oil will drain from housing cavity.

   Replace oil filter cartridge
   Remove old filter cartridge from housing cap assembly. Clean housing cap and inspect O-ring seal in the cap groove. If O-ring is damaged or does not come with new filter, replace it. Insert new filter cartridge into housing cap, ensuring it seats properly.
   ℹ️The filter cartridge should fit snugly in the cap. Do not force if resistance is met; verify correct filter part number.

   Install oil filter housing assembly
   Lubricate housing O-ring with fresh engine oil. Thread housing cap with new filter into engine block by hand until seated. Using 64mm filter wrench and torque wrench, tighten to specification. Wipe area clean of oil residue.

   Reinstall skid plate if equipped
   If skid plate or splash shield was removed, reinstall and secure with original fasteners. Torque bolts to specification. Ensure all fasteners are installed and panel is secure.

   Fill engine with oil
   Lower vehicle to ground. Remove oil filler cap on top of engine (driver side valve cover). Using funnel, pour 4 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0W-20 oil into engine. Add remaining oil in small increments while checking dipstick level. Install oil filler cap hand-tight.

   Check for leaks and verify oil level
   Start engine and allow to idle for 1-2 minutes. Check oil pressure warning light extinguishes within 2-3 seconds. Shut off engine and inspect drain plug and filter housing for leaks. Wait 5 minutes for oil to settle, then check dipstick. Oil level should be between MIN and MAX marks. Add oil if necessary to reach MAX mark.
   ⚠If oil pressure warning light remains illuminated beyond 3 seconds, shut off engine immediately and verify oil level and filter installation.

Reassembly

1. Ensure oil filler cap is installed securely but not over-tightened
2. Verify skid plate or splash shield is fully secured with all fasteners installed
3. Wipe down engine bay and undercarriage of any spilled oil

Verification

• Oil level on dipstick reads at or near MAX mark when checked on level ground after 5-minute settling period
• No oil leaks visible at drain plug or filter housing after engine has reached operating temperature
• Oil pressure warning light extinguishes within 2-3 seconds of engine start
• Engine maintenance reminder reset if applicable using dashboard button sequence or OBD-II scanner
