This procedure covers removal and replacement of the audio amplifier located in the trunk area of 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla vehicles equipped with premium audio systems.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake

   Open hood and locate the battery in the engine compartment. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative (black) battery terminal bolt. Remove the negative cable from the battery post and secure it away from the terminal to prevent accidental reconnection.

   Remove trunk floor board and spare tire cover
   In the trunk, lift and remove the trunk floor board by pulling upward at the rear edge. Remove the spare tire cover to access the left side trunk trim panel where the amplifier is mounted.

   Remove left rear trunk side trim panel
   Locate the left side trunk trim panel (driver side). Use trim removal tools to carefully pry out the retaining clips securing the panel. Start from the top rear corner and work your way forward. There are typically 5-7 clips holding this panel. Pull the panel away from the body to expose the amplifier mounting location.

   Locate and access the amplifier
   The amplifier is mounted to the left rear quarter panel area, behind the trim panel you just removed. It is a rectangular metal box approximately 8x6 inches with multiple wire harness connectors. Note the orientation and position for reinstallation.

   Disconnect amplifier electrical connectors
   Locate the three electrical connectors on the amplifier: power/ground connector (largest), speaker output connector (medium), and audio input connector (smallest). Press the locking tab on each connector while pulling straight out. Note connector positions or take a photo for reference during reinstallation.

   Remove amplifier ground wire
   Locate the ground wire bolted to the vehicle body near the amplifier mounting location. Use a 10mm socket to remove the ground bolt securing the ground strap to the chassis. Inspect the ground contact point and clean if corrosion is present.

   Remove amplifier mounting bolts
   Use a 10mm socket to remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the bracket. There are typically 3-4 bolts. Support the amplifier while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling. Carefully pull the amplifier away from the mounting bracket.

   Install new amplifier
   Position the new amplifier onto the mounting bracket, aligning the bolt holes. Thread in all mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Tighten the mounting bolts in a cross pattern to the specified torque using a torque wrench.

   Reconnect ground wire
   Clean the ground contact point on the chassis with a wire brush if needed to ensure good electrical contact. Position the ground strap and install the ground bolt. Tighten to the specified torque, ensuring the ground wire has a clean metal-to-metal contact with the body.

    Reconnect electrical connectors
    Connect the three electrical connectors to the new amplifier in their original positions: power/ground (largest), speaker outputs (medium), and audio input (smallest). Push each connector in firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is locked.

    Reconnect battery and test
    Return to the engine compartment and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Tighten the battery terminal bolt to the specified torque. Before reinstalling trim panels, start the vehicle and test the audio system at various volume levels and sources to confirm proper amplifier operation.

    Reinstall trunk trim panel
    Position the left trunk side trim panel and align all clips with their respective mounting holes in the body. Press firmly around each clip location until you hear the clips snap into place. Ensure the panel is flush and secure along all edges.

    Reinstall trunk floor components
    Replace the spare tire cover and trunk floor board in reverse order of removal. Ensure all components are properly seated and secure before returning cargo to the trunk.

Reassembly

1. Verify all trunk trim panels are properly secured and all clips are engaged
2. Confirm trunk floor board and spare tire cover are correctly positioned
3. Check that no tools or parts were left in the trunk or engine compartment

Verification

• Start the engine and turn on the audio system
• Test all speakers at low, medium, and high volume to ensure proper sound from all channels
• Test multiple audio sources (AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, aux input) to confirm amplifier processes all signals correctly
• Listen for distortion, buzzing, or imbalanced sound that might indicate improper installation
• Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster related to audio system
• Check that battery terminal is secure and shows no corrosion
