Replace the high-pressure power steering hose between the power steering pump and steering rack on 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla with 1.8L I4 engine.
Warnings
⚠Power steering fluid will drain when disconnecting hoses. Have drain pan positioned before loosening fittings.
⚠ATF fluid can irritate skin. Wash immediately if contact occurs.
ℹ️Work on cool engine only. Power steering components can retain heat after operation.

Parts
- High-pressure power steering hose assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Power steering line fitting O-rings × 4 — 14x2mm and 16x2mm typically included with hose
Fluids
- Toyota ATF Dexron III — 1 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated
- Raise front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands
- Remove engine under cover if equipped using 10mm socket
- Place drain pan under power steering pump area
Procedure
- 1Remove power steering fluid from reservoirUse a fluid pump or turkey baster to remove as much power steering fluid as possible from the reservoir. This minimizes spillage when disconnecting lines. Dispose of old fluid properly.
- 2Disconnect high-pressure line from power steering pumpUsing a 17mm flare nut wrench, carefully loosen the high-pressure line fitting at the power steering pump outlet. Position drain pan directly below. Unthread completely and allow fluid to drain. Remove and discard old O-ring from fitting.
- 3Trace and access routing of high-pressure hoseFollow the high-pressure hose from the pump down toward the steering rack. Note any clips or brackets securing the hose along its path. Remove any 10mm bolts or clips holding the hose to the engine or frame as needed.
- 4Disconnect high-pressure line from steering rackLocate the high-pressure line connection at the steering rack, typically on the passenger side of the rack assembly. Using a 19mm flare nut wrench, loosen and remove the fitting. Allow remaining fluid to drain into pan. Remove and discard old O-ring from this fitting as well.
- 5Remove old high-pressure hoseRemove the old high-pressure hose assembly from the vehicle, carefully maneuvering it out from the engine bay. Note the exact routing path and any mounting points for installation of the new hose.
- 6Prepare new high-pressure hoseUnpack new high-pressure hose assembly. Install new O-rings on both fittings, ensuring they are properly seated in their grooves. Lightly coat O-rings with clean ATF Dexron III to ease installation and prevent damage.
- 7Route new high-pressure hoseRoute the new hose assembly through the engine bay following the exact path of the original hose. Ensure the hose is not kinked, twisted, or in contact with any sharp edges or hot surfaces. Position both ends at their respective connection points.
- 8Connect new hose to steering rackThread the fitting onto the steering rack by hand first to ensure proper alignment and prevent cross-threading. Once hand-tight, use 19mm flare nut wrench and torque wrench to tighten to specification.Torque specPower Steering Line Fittings30 Nm (22 lb-ft)
- 9Connect new hose to power steering pumpThread the fitting onto the power steering pump outlet by hand until snug. Verify O-ring remains properly seated. Use 17mm flare nut wrench and torque wrench to tighten to specification.Torque specPower Steering Line Fittings30 Nm (22 lb-ft)
- 10Secure hose mounting pointsReinstall any clips, brackets, or mounting bolts that secure the high-pressure hose along its routing path. Ensure hose has adequate clearance from moving components and heat sources.
- 11Fill and bleed power steering systemFill power steering reservoir to the COLD MAX line with Toyota ATF Dexron III. Start engine and turn steering wheel slowly lock-to-lock 3-4 times without holding at full lock. Stop engine, check fluid level and top off as needed. Repeat process until no air bubbles appear in reservoir and fluid level stabilizes.
Reassembly
- Reinstall engine under cover if removed
- Lower vehicle from jack stands
- Check power steering fluid level one final time with engine at operating temperature
- Top off to HOT MAX line if needed
Verification
- Start engine and verify no leaks at either power steering line connection
- Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock while stationary and verify smooth operation with no whining or groaning noises
- Test drive vehicle and verify normal power steering assist in both directions
- Recheck power steering fluid level after test drive and inspect fittings for any seepage
- Monitor power steering fluid level over next few days to ensure system remains properly sealed
