Replace the front turn signal bulb by accessing the bulb socket from under the hood without removing the headlight assembly.

Warnings

Allow engine to cool completely before working near headlight assembly to avoid burns from exhaust manifold heat
ℹ️Do not touch the glass portion of new halogen bulbs with bare fingers as skin oils reduce bulb life and may cause premature failure
ℹ️Turn signal bulbs are accessed from the engine bay, not from underneath the vehicle

Tools required

Work gloves (to prevent oil contamination on bulb)
Clean cloth or towel

Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb × 1 — 7440A amber bulb (single filament wedge-type)

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
  2. Allow engine to cool if recently operated
  3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
  4. Identify which side requires bulb replacement (driver or passenger)

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate turn signal bulb socket
Looking down into the engine bay behind the headlight assembly, locate the turn signal bulb socket. On the driver side, it is positioned toward the outer fender side of the headlight assembly. On the passenger side, you may need to move the air intake duct slightly aside for better access. The socket has two wiring harness connectors attached and is positioned separately from the main headlight bulb.
  2. 2
    Remove bulb socket from housing
Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the headlight assembly. Pull the socket straight out toward the engine bay. The socket and bulb will come out as a single assembly with the wiring harness still attached.
  3. 3
    Remove failed bulb from socket
The 7440A amber bulb is a wedge-type design. Firmly grasp the bulb glass (use cloth if bulb is hot) and pull straight out from the socket. The bulb should release with moderate force. Do not twist the bulb during removal. Inspect the socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage that could affect the new bulb.
  4. 4
    Install new turn signal bulb
Using a clean cloth or gloves to avoid touching the glass, align the new 7440A amber bulb with the socket. The bulb base has offset pins that only allow installation in one orientation. Push the bulb firmly straight into the socket until it seats completely and is secure. Verify the bulb is fully seated by attempting to gently pull it back out.
  5. 5
    Reinstall socket into headlight assembly
Align the socket tabs with the slots in the headlight assembly housing. Insert the socket straight into the housing opening and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it locks into place. You should feel a positive click or stop when properly seated. Ensure the wiring harness is not pinched or kinked.

Reassembly

  1. If air intake duct was moved on passenger side, reposition it to original location
  2. Verify bulb socket is fully locked into headlight assembly and wiring is clear of moving components

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Activate turn signal on repaired side and verify amber light flashes at normal rate (not fast-blinking which indicates circuit problem)
  • Activate hazard lights and confirm both front turn signals flash properly
  • Visually inspect from front of vehicle to confirm turn signal illuminates with proper amber color
  • Turn off ignition and close hood
