This procedure covers adding PAG oil to the AC system through the compressor service port to restore proper lubrication levels after refrigerant loss or component replacement.
Warnings
⚠️R-134a refrigerant can cause frostbite on contact with skin or eyes. Wear appropriate protective equipment at all times.
⚠️Never add oil while system is pressurized. Release refrigerant using approved recovery equipment only.
⚠Use only PAG 46 oil specified for R-134a systems. Wrong oil type will damage compressor and contaminate entire AC system.
⚠Do not overfill oil. Excess oil reduces cooling efficiency and can cause compressor damage.
ℹ️This procedure assumes refrigerant has been properly recovered. AC work releasing refrigerant to atmosphere is illegal in most jurisdictions.

Parts
- PAG 46 compressor oil × 1 — Use Kia-approved PAG 46 oil
- AC system O-rings × 2 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off engine and allow AC system to equalize pressure for at least 10 minutes
- Verify AC system has been properly evacuated using approved refrigerant recovery equipment
- Locate AC compressor on passenger side of engine compartment, driven by serpentine belt
- Clean area around AC service ports to prevent contamination
- Determine correct oil quantity: typically 80-120ml total system capacity, add amount lost during repair or 30-50ml if adding due to gradual loss
Procedure
- 1Verify system is depressurizedConnect AC manifold gauge set to high and low side service ports. Verify both gauges read 0 psi or atmospheric pressure. If system shows pressure, it must be recovered by certified technician with proper equipment before proceeding.
- 2Locate compressor oil fill pointIdentify the suction port (low side) on the AC compressor. This is the larger diameter fitting on the compressor body. On the 2015 Forte 1.8L, this port is typically on the top of the compressor assembly accessible from above.
- 3Prepare oil injection equipmentMeasure the correct amount of PAG 46 oil into the oil injector tool. If replacing compressor, use 120ml. If adding due to minor leak repair, add 30-50ml. If replacing other components: condenser (30ml), evaporator (50ml), receiver-drier (20ml). Ensure oil is clean and free from moisture contamination.
- 4Disconnect low side service lineRemove the low pressure service line from the compressor suction port by loosening the fitting. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace with new O-ring coated in PAG oil. Keep fitting covered to prevent contamination entry.Torque specAC Line Fittings20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- 5Inject PAG oil into compressorConnect oil injector tool to the compressor suction port. Slowly inject the measured PAG oil into the compressor. If using vacuum method, pull slight vacuum to draw oil in. Rotate compressor clutch by hand several times during injection to distribute oil internally. Do not force oil; injection should take 2-3 minutes.
- 6Reconnect service lineRemove oil injector and immediately reconnect the low side service line to compressor suction port. Install new lubricated O-ring. Hand-tighten fitting first, then torque to specification using torque wrench.Torque specAC Line Fittings20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- 7Rotate compressor manuallyRotate the compressor clutch hub by hand 10-15 full rotations to distribute the fresh oil throughout internal components. Rotation should feel smooth without binding. If resistance is felt, investigate for internal compressor damage.
- 8Prepare for evacuation and rechargeEnsure all AC line connections are tight and O-rings are properly seated. Verify manifold gauges are properly connected. System is now ready for vacuum evacuation and refrigerant recharge per standard AC service procedures.
Reassembly
- Verify all AC line fittings are torqued to 20 Nm with new lubricated O-rings installed
- Ensure no tools or materials are left in engine compartment
- System must be evacuated to 29+ inches of mercury vacuum for minimum 30 minutes before recharging
Verification
- After evacuation, perform leak test to verify all connections are sealed properly
- Recharge system with correct amount of R-134a refrigerant per specifications (approximately 450-500g total)
- Start engine and activate AC system, verify compressor clutch engages and disengages properly
- Monitor manifold gauges: low side should read 25-35 psi, high side 200-250 psi at idle with 80°F ambient temperature
- Verify cold air output from vents reaches 40-50°F with maximum AC setting
- Check for abnormal compressor noise which could indicate oil overfill or underfill
- Inspect all fittings for refrigerant leaks using electronic leak detector or soap solution
