Parts
- Audio amplifier assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Trim panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
- Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle.
- Open trunk and remove all items for clear access to trunk interior panels.
- Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 3 minutes for system discharge.
Procedure
- 1Remove trunk side trim panelLocate the left side trunk trim panel where the amplifier is mounted (driver's side in trunk). Use trim panel removal tools to carefully pry out the plastic clips securing the panel. Start from the bottom edge and work upward. Remove any visible screws if present, then pull the panel away from the body to release remaining clips.
- 2Locate the amplifierWith the trim panel removed, identify the amplifier module mounted to the sheet metal. It will be a rectangular metal box with multiple wiring harness connectors attached. The amplifier is typically mounted on the left side panel near the rear wheel well area.
- 3Disconnect wiring harnessesIdentify all electrical connectors attached to the amplifier (typically 3-5 connectors including power, ground, and audio signal inputs/outputs). Press the locking tabs on each connector and carefully pull straight out to disconnect. Note the position and orientation of each connector. Check for any secondary locking mechanisms on connectors before pulling.
- 4Remove amplifier mounting boltsUsing a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the body bracket. There are typically 3-4 bolts holding the amplifier. Support the amplifier with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 5Remove amplifier from vehicleCarefully extract the amplifier from its mounting location, ensuring no wires are still connected or snagged. Check for any additional ground wires or straps that may need to be disconnected. Place the old amplifier on a clean, static-free surface if it will be kept for warranty exchange.
- 6Prepare new amplifierRemove the new amplifier from its anti-static packaging. Compare it to the old unit to verify correct part. Transfer any mounting brackets if they are not pre-installed on the new unit. Ensure all mounting holes align properly.
- 7Install new amplifierPosition the new amplifier into the mounting location, aligning the bolt holes with the body bracket. Thread in all mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Once all bolts are started, torque them in a cross pattern to ensure even mounting pressure.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect wiring harnessesReconnect all electrical connectors to the new amplifier in their original positions, referring to photos taken during disassembly. Push each connector firmly until you hear and feel a positive click, indicating the locking tab has engaged. Verify each connector is fully seated by gently pulling back on it.
- 9Reinstall trunk trim panelPosition the trunk side trim panel back into place, aligning all mounting points. Press firmly at each clip location to secure the panel. Install any screws that were removed earlier. Ensure the panel sits flush and all edges are properly secured.
- 10Reconnect battery and test systemReconnect the battery negative terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. Test the audio system by turning it on and checking all speakers for proper operation. Test various audio sources (radio, USB, Bluetooth) to verify full amplifier functionality. Check for any error messages on the display.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are securely fastened with no loose clips or gaps.
- Verify all electrical connections are fully seated and locked.
- Check that no tools or parts were left in the trunk area.
Verification
- Turn on audio system and verify sound from all speakers (front left/right, rear left/right, and subwoofer if equipped).
- Test volume control and fade/balance adjustments to confirm amplifier is processing signals correctly.
- Check for any distortion, popping, or cutting out at various volume levels.
- Verify no warning lights or error messages appear on the instrument cluster or infotainment display.
- Confirm trunk trim panel is secure and properly aligned with no rattles.
