Complete replacement of all engine mounts including front mount, rear mount, and side mounts on the 2015 Kia Forte 1.8L I4 engine to eliminate vibration and restore proper engine support.
Warnings
⚠️Engine must be properly supported at all times during this procedure. Failure to support engine can result in severe injury or death.
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for vehicle weight.
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before starting work to avoid burn injuries.
⚠Engine mounts are under load. Support engine before loosening any mount fasteners.
ℹ️Mark or photograph each mount's orientation before removal to ensure correct installation alignment.

Parts
- Front engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Rear engine mount (torque strut) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Right side engine mount × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Transmission mount × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
- Allow engine to cool completely (minimum 2 hours after running).
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure cable away from battery.
- Raise front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands under manufacturer-specified lift points.
- Remove front wheels to improve access to lower mount fasteners.
- Remove engine undershield/splash shield if equipped.
- Apply penetrating oil to all mount fastener threads and allow 15-20 minutes to penetrate.
Procedure
- 1Install engine support systemPosition engine support bar across fender edges or install engine hoist with lifting chains attached to dedicated engine lift points. Slowly apply upward tension to support engine weight but do not lift engine yet. Ensure support is stable and secure before proceeding.
- 2Remove right side engine mountFrom above engine bay, locate right side mount between engine block and frame rail. Remove mount-to-frame bolts first (typically 3 bolts). Position floor jack under engine oil pan with wide wooden block as cushion. Raise jack slightly to take load off mount. Remove mount-to-block bolts and extract mount assembly from engine bay.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 3Remove front engine mountFrom underneath vehicle, locate front engine mount at front-lower area of engine. Remove the through-bolt securing mount to subframe bracket. Remove mounting bolts securing mount bracket to engine block. Carefully extract mount assembly downward. Note orientation of mount for reinstallation.Torque specThrough-Bolt85 Nm (63 lb-ft)Mounting Bolts45 Nm (33 lb-ft)
- 4Remove rear engine mount (torque strut)Locate rear mount assembly connecting top of engine to firewall/frame. This torque strut is typically accessed from above. Remove mount-to-frame bolts at firewall end first. Remove mount through-bolt at engine bracket end. Extract complete mount assembly from engine bay.Torque specMount Through Bolt84 Nm (62 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 5Remove transmission mountFrom underneath vehicle, locate transmission mount on driver side of transmission. Position floor jack under transmission pan with wooden block cushion to support weight. Raise jack slightly to support transmission. Remove transmission mount bolts securing mount to transmission bracket. Remove mount-to-subframe bolts and extract mount assembly.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Clean mounting surfacesWith all mounts removed, use wire brush to clean all mounting surfaces on engine block, transmission, and frame/subframe. Remove rust, old rubber debris, and corrosion. Inspect mounting brackets for cracks or damage. Replace any damaged brackets before installing new mounts.
- 7Install new transmission mountPosition new transmission mount onto subframe mounting points and loosely install mount-to-subframe bolts. Ensure floor jack is still supporting transmission weight. Align mount to transmission bracket and install transmission mount bolts. Do not fully tighten yet.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 8Install new front engine mountPosition new front mount into location from underneath vehicle. Align mount bracket to engine block and install mounting bolts finger-tight. Install through-bolt connecting mount to subframe bracket but do not tighten yet. Verify mount is properly seated and aligned.Torque specThrough-Bolt85 Nm (63 lb-ft)Mounting Bolts45 Nm (33 lb-ft)
- 9Install new rear engine mountPosition new rear mount (torque strut) into engine bay. Install mount through-bolt at engine bracket end finger-tight. Align firewall/frame end of mount and install mount-to-frame bolts finger-tight. Verify mount is not twisted or misaligned.Torque specMount Through Bolt84 Nm (62 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 10Install new right side engine mountPosition new right side mount between engine block and frame rail. Install mount-to-block bolts finger-tight. Align mount to frame bracket and install engine mount-to-frame bolts finger-tight. Use engine support to adjust engine position if needed for proper alignment.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 11Align engine and transmission positionWith all mounts loosely installed, use engine support bar or hoist to carefully adjust engine position to center it in engine bay. Adjust fore-aft and side-to-side position to minimize stress on mounts. Lower transmission jack slightly to settle transmission onto mount. Verify all mounts are unstressed and properly aligned.
- 12Torque all mount fastenersFollowing sequence: Start with transmission mount bolts to specification. Torque front mount mounting bolts and through-bolt to specification. Torque rear mount through-bolt and mount-to-frame bolts to specification. Finally torque right side mount-to-block bolts and mount-to-frame bolts to specification. Use torque wrench for all critical fasteners.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)Mounting Bolts45 Nm (33 lb-ft)Through-Bolt85 Nm (63 lb-ft)Mount Through Bolt84 Nm (62 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 13Remove support equipment and reinstall componentsSlowly release tension from engine support bar or hoist to transfer full engine weight onto new mounts. Remove engine support equipment. Remove floor jack from under transmission and engine. Reinstall engine undershield/splash shield. Reinstall front wheels and torque lug nuts to specification.
Reassembly
- Reconnect negative battery terminal and tighten securely.
- Lower vehicle from jack stands to ground.
- Start engine and verify no abnormal vibrations or movement.
- If equipped with any engine mount-related sensors or covers, ensure all are properly reinstalled and secured.
Verification
- With engine running at idle, observe engine movement - should be minimal with no excessive shaking.
- Rev engine from idle to 2000 RPM and release - engine should settle smoothly without harsh movement.
- Visually inspect all mounts to confirm no contact between engine and frame/subframe.
- Test drive vehicle through various speeds and acceleration rates to confirm vibration is eliminated.
- Perform final visual inspection of all mount fasteners to confirm proper torque and no looseness.
- Listen for any knocking or clunking noises during acceleration or deceleration that could indicate mount issues.
