Parts
- HVAC control panel assembly × 1 — 97250-A7100 or equivalent
- Dash panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off ignition and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Set interior temperature to mid-range position before removal
- Gather replacement parts and tools within easy reach
Procedure
- 1Remove lower center console trimUsing plastic trim tools, carefully pry out the lower center console panel surrounding the cupholders. Start from the rear edge and work forward. Release 4 retention clips without breaking them. Pull panel away from console and set aside.
- 2Remove center air vent assemblyInsert plastic trim tool at the top edge of the center air vent bezel. Gently pry outward to release the spring clips at top and bottom. Pull the vent assembly straight out approximately 2 inches until you can access the rear. Disconnect the hazard switch connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back.
- 3Remove HVAC panel mounting screwsLocate and remove the two Phillips screws at the top of the HVAC control panel opening (now visible after removing center vents). These screws secure the control panel bracket to the dash frame. Place screws in parts tray to prevent loss.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 4Release HVAC panel from dashCarefully pull the HVAC control panel forward from the dash opening. It will slide out approximately 3-4 inches. Use even pressure on both sides to avoid binding. Do not force - if resistance is felt, verify all mounting screws are removed.
- 5Disconnect electrical connectorsWith the control panel pulled forward, access the rear of the unit. Locate the main control connector (large gray connector) and press the release tab while pulling straight back. Disconnect the illumination connector (smaller connector) using the same technique. If equipped with automatic climate control, disconnect the additional sensor connector.
- 6Disconnect cable connectionsLocate the temperature blend door cable attachment on the right side of the control panel. Press the cable end clip and pull to release from the temperature control lever. Note the cable routing and position for reinstallation. Remove the panel completely from the vehicle.
- 7Install new HVAC control panelAttach the temperature blend door cable to the new control panel by aligning the cable end with the lever slot and pressing until it clicks into place. Verify the cable moves freely through its full range. Connect all electrical connectors, ensuring they click fully into place. Verify connector orientation matches photos taken during removal.
- 8Secure control panel to dashCarefully guide the control panel into the dash opening, ensuring wiring and cable are not pinched behind the unit. Push panel flush with surrounding trim. Install the two Phillips mounting screws at the top of the panel and tighten to specification.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 9Reinstall center vent assemblyReconnect the hazard switch electrical connector. Align the center vent assembly with the dash opening and press firmly until all spring clips engage with audible clicks. Verify the vent louvers operate smoothly and hazard switch functions.
- 10Reinstall lower console trimPosition the lower center console trim panel and align all mounting clip locations. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips engage. Verify panel is flush and secure along all edges.
Reassembly
- Reconnect negative battery terminal and tighten securely
- Start vehicle and verify all HVAC functions operate correctly (fan speeds, temperature control, mode selection)
- Check that all dashboard warning lights function normally after battery reconnection
- Verify radio, clock, and other electronics function properly; re-enter radio code if necessary
Verification
- Test all fan speed settings from 1 through maximum to confirm proper operation
- Verify temperature control adjusts from full cold to full hot smoothly
- Check all mode selections (defrost, floor, panel, bi-level) operate correctly
- Confirm all panel illumination lights work with headlights on
- Verify AC compressor engages when AC button is pressed (listen for compressor clutch click)
- Ensure no gaps exist between control panel and surrounding trim
- Test hazard switch and verify proper operation
