Parts
- Side mirror assembly (driver or passenger) × 1 — Use OEM specification for correct color match
- Door panel clips (if damaged) × 3 — Kia OEM replacement clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Roll down window partially for easier access to door panel
- Clean area around mirror base to prevent debris from entering door cavity
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel inner trim coverUsing a trim removal tool, carefully pry off the triangular interior trim cover at the front corner of the door panel where it meets the mirror base. This cover is held by clips - gently work around the perimeter to release all clips without breaking them. Set the cover aside in a safe location.
- 2Disconnect mirror electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector behind the trim cover. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect the mirror wiring harness. If the mirror is power-adjustable or heated, ensure the connector is fully disengaged. Note the routing of the wire harness for reinstallation.
- 3Remove mirror mounting boltsUsing a 10mm socket and ratchet, remove the three mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. Support the mirror from the outside with your other hand to prevent it from falling once the bolts are removed. The bolts are arranged in a triangular pattern.⚠Support mirror assembly from outside while removing final bolt to prevent dropping and damaging paint
- 4Remove mirror assemblyCarefully feed the wiring harness through the door opening while pulling the mirror assembly away from the door. Guide the harness connector through carefully to avoid snagging on sharp edges. Inspect the door frame mounting surface for any damage, rust, or debris and clean if necessary.
- 5Prepare new mirror assemblyUnpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the original configuration (power/manual, heated/non-heated). Check that all mounting holes align and the connector type matches. If necessary, transfer any additional components from the old mirror that are not included with the replacement.
- 6Install new mirror assemblyFeed the wiring harness connector through the door opening from outside to inside. Align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Hold the mirror in position from the outside while working from inside to start threading the mounting bolts by hand. Ensure proper gasket alignment to prevent water intrusion.
- 7Torque mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the three mirror mounting bolts in a star pattern (alternating between bolts) to ensure even pressure distribution. Torque all three bolts to specification. Verify the mirror sits flush against the door frame with no gaps.ℹ️Use 26.0 Nm (19 lb-ft) torque specification for mirror mounting bolts - do not overtighten as this can crack the mirror baseTorque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector and push firmly until you hear or feel a click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely locked. Ensure no wires are pinched or twisted.
- 9Reinstall interior trim coverPosition the triangular trim cover over the mirror mounting area, aligning all clips with their corresponding holes. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Ensure the cover sits flush with no gaps.
- 10Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Turn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine. Test all mirror functions including power adjustment (up, down, left, right) and heating element if equipped. Verify the mirror holds position and moves smoothly in all directions.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly locked
- Verify trim panel is fully seated with no loose clips
- Check mirror adjustment range and heating function if applicable
- Inspect for any gaps between mirror base and door that could allow water entry
Verification
- Manually adjust mirror through full range of motion to ensure smooth operation without binding
- Test power mirror controls in all directions (if equipped) - mirror should respond immediately
- Check heated mirror function by running heater for 2-3 minutes and feeling for warmth (if equipped)
- Visually inspect mirror mounting for proper alignment and no gaps at the door seal
- Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster after battery reconnection
- Test mirror stability by gently pressing on housing - should not move or feel loose
