This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve on the 2015 Kia Forte 1.8L I4 engine to restore proper crankcase ventilation.

Warnings

Allow engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before beginning work to avoid burns from hot components
ℹ️A failing PCV valve can cause rough idle, oil leaks, increased oil consumption, and check engine light codes P0171 or P0174

Parts

  • PCV Valve × 1 — Use OEM Kia part 26740-2E000 or equivalent
  • PCV Valve Grommet × 1 — Use OEM specification if damaged

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Allow engine to cool completely
  3. Open hood and secure with prop rod

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate the PCV valve
The PCV valve is located on the driver's side of the valve cover (front of engine compartment). It is a cylindrical valve inserted into a rubber grommet on the valve cover with a hose connected to the intake manifold.
  2. 2
    Disconnect the PCV valve hose
Locate the vacuum hose connected to the PCV valve. Squeeze the hose clamp or release the quick-connect fitting (depending on production date) and pull the hose straight off the PCV valve. Note the orientation of the hose for reinstallation.
  3. 3
    Remove the PCV valve
Firmly grip the PCV valve body and pull it straight up and out of the rubber grommet in the valve cover. Use a twisting motion if it is stuck from heat or age. The valve should come out with moderate force.
  4. 4
    Inspect the grommet
Examine the rubber grommet remaining in the valve cover for cracks, tears, or deterioration. If the grommet is damaged or excessively hard, remove it by prying carefully with a flathead screwdriver and replace with a new grommet.
  5. 5
    Prepare the new PCV valve
Remove the new PCV valve from packaging. Verify it matches the old valve in size and connector type. Shake the new valve gently and listen for the internal check valve rattle, confirming it is functional.
  6. 6
    Install the new PCV valve
Insert the new PCV valve into the grommet in the valve cover, pushing firmly until it seats completely. The valve should sit flush with minimal protrusion above the grommet. If using a torque wrench, tighten to specification, though hand-tight is typically sufficient for this press-fit design.

  7. 7
    Reconnect the vacuum hose
Push the vacuum hose firmly onto the PCV valve nipple until it seats completely. Ensure the hose clamp or quick-connect fitting engages properly. Tug gently on the hose to confirm a secure connection.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all hose connections are secure and properly seated
  2. Ensure no tools or shop towels are left in the engine compartment

Verification

  • Start the engine and listen for smooth idle with no vacuum leaks or hissing sounds
  • Remove the oil filler cap while engine is idling; you should feel slight vacuum (cap should be slightly difficult to hold), confirming proper PCV operation
  • Check for oil leaks around the valve cover grommet area
  • Test drive vehicle and verify any previous rough idle or check engine light conditions are resolved
