Parts
- Front window motor and regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or verify aftermarket fitment for 2015 Forte
- Door panel clips × 1 — Replace any broken clips during removal
- Vapor barrier adhesive (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Roll the affected window up to the fully closed position if operational
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system discharge
- Prepare a clean work area to set door panel without scratching painted surfaces
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel fastenersRemove the Phillips screw from inside the door pull handle. Use a panel removal tool to carefully pry out the power window switch panel from the armrest. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch assembly by pressing the release tab. Remove any additional screws securing the door panel (typically one behind the inside door handle and one in the lower corner of the panel).
- 2Remove door panelStarting at the bottom rear corner, use panel removal tools to release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around the panel, releasing all clips. Lift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull it away from the door. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for speakers or courtesy lights. Set the panel aside on a protected surface.
- 3Access vapor barrierCarefully peel back the vapor barrier (plastic sheet) enough to access the window regulator and motor assembly. If you need full access, you may remove it completely, but take care not to tear it. If the adhesive is damaged, you will need to replace it during reassembly.
- 4Secure window glassIf the window is functional, raise it to the full-up position. Use masking tape to secure the window glass to the door frame, taping from the outside of the door. This prevents the glass from dropping when the regulator is disconnected. Alternatively, have an assistant hold the glass in position.
- 5Disconnect window motorLocate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. Ensure the connector is positioned away from the work area to prevent damage.
- 6Disconnect glass from regulatorLocate the two bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift mechanism (typically accessed through holes in the door frame). Remove these bolts and carefully separate the glass from the regulator. Ensure the glass remains secured with tape or by hand.
- 7Remove regulator mounting boltsLocate all regulator mounting bolts (typically 3-4 bolts securing the regulator assembly to the door frame). Remove these bolts completely. Note the bolt locations and lengths as they may vary.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Remove regulator assemblyCarefully maneuver the window regulator and motor assembly out through the access opening in the door frame. You may need to rotate and angle the assembly to clear the door structure. Take care not to damage the vapor barrier or door wiring during removal.
- 9Install new regulator assemblyPosition the new window regulator and motor assembly into the door cavity, maneuvering it through the access opening. Align the regulator mounting holes with the door frame mounting points. Install all mounting bolts hand-tight first, then torque to specification in a cross-pattern to ensure even seating.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect window glassAlign the window glass attachment points with the regulator lift mechanism. Install the glass attachment bolts and tighten securely. Remove the tape securing the glass to the door frame.
- 11Reconnect and test motorConnect the electrical connector to the window motor. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and test window operation through several full up-and-down cycles before reassembling the door. Verify smooth operation without binding or unusual noise. Disconnect battery again before final reassembly.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 12Reinstall vapor barrier and door panelReposition the vapor barrier, ensuring a complete seal around the perimeter. Apply new adhesive if necessary. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel components. Position the door panel onto the door, engaging the top edge over the window sill first, then pressing firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all screws and the power window switch assembly.
Reassembly
- Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to specification
- Perform window auto-up/down re-initialization if equipped: roll window fully down, then hold switch up for 2 seconds after window reaches top position
- Verify all door panel clips are fully seated and panel is secure
- Test all door-mounted switches and courtesy lights for proper operation
Verification
- Operate window through multiple complete cycles, verifying smooth operation in both directions
- Verify window auto-reverse function operates correctly if equipped
- Check for any unusual noises, binding, or hesitation during window operation
- Confirm window seals properly against weatherstripping when fully closed
- Verify door panel is secure with no rattles or loose clips
