Warnings
⚠️Diesel fuel system operates under extremely high pressure. Do not loosen fuel lines or connections while engine is running or immediately after shutdown.
⚠Used engine oil and differential fluids may contain harmful contaminants. Avoid prolonged skin contact and dispose of properly.
⚠Vehicle must be completely level when filling differentials and transfer case to ensure proper fluid levels.
⚠ATF+4 is the only approved fluid for transmission and power steering. Do not substitute.
ℹ️This service interval assumes normal driving conditions. Severe duty use may require more frequent service.

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Allow engine and drivetrain components to cool to safe working temperature
- Raise vehicle on appropriate lift or use jack stands at all four corners, ensuring it is completely level
- Remove engine belly pan/skid plate if equipped to access oil pan and filter
- Have all fluids, filters, and parts ready before beginning work
- Clean area around all drain plugs and fill holes to prevent contamination
Procedure
- 1Engine oil and filter servicePosition drain pan under oil pan. Remove oil drain plug and allow oil to drain completely (approximately 13 quarts). Remove oil filter using filter wrench and allow to drain. Install new oil filter, lubricating gasket with fresh oil and tightening hand-tight plus 3/4 turn. Reinstall drain plug with proper torque. Fill engine with 13 quarts of Mopar 5W-20 Synthetic Blend oil through oil fill cap. Start engine, check for leaks, shut off, wait 5 minutes, and verify oil level on dipstick.
- 2Fuel filter/water separator replacementLocate fuel filter housing on driver side of engine. Place drain pan underneath. Open water drain valve at bottom of filter housing and drain completely. Use fuel filter wrench to remove filter cartridge assembly by turning counterclockwise. Clean sealing surface on filter head. Install new filter, hand-tightening only. Close water drain valve. Prime fuel system using hand primer pump on filter housing until firm resistance is felt (approximately 50-100 pumps). Start engine and check for leaks. May require extended cranking on first start.
- 3Air filter and cabin filter replacementOpen hood and locate air filter housing on driver side. Release clamps and remove housing cover. Remove old air filter element and inspect housing for debris. Install new air filter element ensuring proper seating. Reinstall housing cover and secure clamps. For cabin filter, open glove box, remove stops to allow full drop, and locate filter access door behind glove box. Remove old cabin filter, noting airflow direction arrow. Install new cabin filter with airflow arrow pointing toward rear of vehicle. Reinstall access door and glove box.
- 4Front differential fluid servicePosition drain pan under front differential. Remove fill plug first to ensure it is not seized. Remove drain plug and allow fluid to drain completely. Inspect magnetic drain plug for excessive metal debris. Clean and reinstall drain plug with new gasket. Using fluid transfer pump, add 1.5 quarts of 75W-90 GL-5 gear oil through fill hole until fluid begins to seep from fill hole opening. Install fill plug with new gasket. Wipe clean and check for leaks.
- 5Rear differential fluid servicePosition drain pan under rear differential. Remove fill plug first to verify access. Remove drain plug and allow fluid to drain completely (approximately 2 quarts). Inspect magnetic drain plug for metal debris. Clean and install drain plug with new gasket. Using fluid transfer pump, add Mopar 75W-140 synthetic gear lubricant through fill hole until fluid reaches bottom of fill hole threads. Install fill plug with new gasket. Clean exterior and verify no leaks.
- 6Transfer case fluid serviceLocate transfer case on driver side of transmission. Position drain pan underneath. Remove fill plug first to ensure accessibility. Remove drain plug and allow fluid to drain completely (approximately 2.5 quarts). Clean drain plug and install with new gasket. Using fluid transfer pump, add 2.5 quarts of Mopar transfer case fluid through fill hole until fluid begins to seep from fill opening. Install fill plug with new gasket. Verify no leaks.
- 7Automatic transmission servicePosition large drain pan under transmission pan. Loosen pan bolts gradually, starting from one corner, allowing fluid to drain slowly. Remove all pan bolts and carefully lower pan, being aware remaining fluid will spill. Clean pan thoroughly and inspect for metal debris or clutch material. Remove old transmission filter by pulling straight down. Install new filter, ensuring proper seating. Clean pan and transmission mating surfaces completely. Install new gasket on pan. Reinstall pan and torque bolts in crisscross pattern. Add 10 quarts of Mopar ATF+4 through dipstick tube. Start engine, cycle through all gear positions, and recheck fluid level with engine at operating temperature in Park.
- 8Coolant system inspection and top-offWith engine cold, check coolant level in overflow reservoir. Should be at cold fill line. Inspect coolant color (should be purple/pink OAT type). Using hydrometer or refractometer, verify coolant protection to at least -34°F. Check all hoses, clamps, and connections for leaks or deterioration. If coolant level is low, add Mopar OAT purple coolant as needed. Do not mix with other coolant types. Inspect radiator cap condition and pressure rating (16 PSI).
- 9Brake fluid inspection and serviceCheck brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. Should be between MIN and MAX marks. Using brake fluid test strips, check moisture content and condition. Inspect fluid color (should be clear to light amber; dark brown indicates contamination). If fluid shows more than 3% moisture or appears contaminated, recommend brake fluid flush. Top off with Mopar DOT 4 brake fluid if needed. Do not overfill. Inspect all visible brake lines, hoses, and connections for leaks or damage.
- 10Chassis lubricationUsing grease gun, lubricate all fittings including: front suspension upper and lower ball joints (4 fittings), tie rod ends (4 fittings), track bar ends (2 fittings), U-joints on front and rear driveshafts (up to 8 fittings depending on configuration), and steering linkage. Pump grease until fresh grease appears at seal or fitting purges old grease. Wipe excess grease from fittings. Verify all fittings accepted grease and are not plugged.
- 11Complete vehicle inspectionInspect all belts for cracking, glazing, or fraying. Check belt tension and condition. Inspect all accessible hoses for cracks, soft spots, or leaks. Check battery terminals for corrosion and clean if necessary. Verify battery hold-down is secure. Inspect tires for wear, check pressure (refer to door placard for proper PSI). Rotate tires if needed according to service history. Inspect brake pads/shoes for remaining thickness. Check steering and suspension components for excessive wear or damage. Inspect exhaust system for leaks, damage, or loose hangers. Verify all lights are operational.
Reassembly
- Reinstall engine belly pan or skid plate if removed
- Lower vehicle to ground and verify all drain plugs and fill holes are secure with no leaks
- Reset maintenance reminder in instrument cluster using menu buttons on steering wheel
- Clean any spilled fluids from vehicle exterior
- Record all service performed with mileage and date for maintenance history
Verification
- Start engine and verify no warning lights remain illuminated on instrument cluster
- Check under vehicle for any fluid leaks from all serviced components after engine reaches operating temperature
- Test drive vehicle and verify proper transmission shifting, transfer case operation, and no unusual noises from differentials
- Verify all fluid levels are correct: engine oil, transmission (check hot in Park), coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid, power steering if equipped
- Re-check all drain plugs and fill holes for leaks after test drive
- Confirm fuel system priming is complete and engine starts normally without extended cranking
