Replace the AC high pressure switch located on the high pressure AC line near the condenser to restore proper AC system pressure monitoring and compressor cycling.
Warnings
⚠️AC system operates under high pressure. Always recover refrigerant using approved equipment before opening system. Refrigerant exposure can cause frostbite and eye injury.
⚠Federal law requires proper refrigerant recovery and disposal by certified technicians. Do not vent refrigerant to atmosphere.
⚠Wear safety glasses throughout this procedure to protect against refrigerant spray and debris.
ℹ️AC system must be evacuated for minimum 30 minutes before recharging to remove moisture.

Parts
- AC High Pressure Switch × 1 — Use OEM specification
- O-ring seals for switch × 2 — Use OEM specification
- R-134a refrigerant × 1 — Verify system capacity on underhood label
- PAG 46 compressor oil × 1 — 50ml for service
Preparation
- Ensure engine is completely cool before beginning work
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Verify AC system has been off for at least 15 minutes
- Locate AC high pressure switch on high pressure line near condenser on passenger side of engine bay
- Have all replacement parts and refrigerant ready before recovering system
Procedure
- 1Recover AC refrigerantConnect AC recovery machine to service ports on high and low pressure lines. Follow recovery machine instructions to completely evacuate all refrigerant from the system. Verify system shows zero pressure on gauges before proceeding. Document amount of refrigerant recovered for recharge reference.⚠️Never loosen AC fittings while system is pressurized. Serious injury can result from refrigerant exposure.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the AC high pressure switch body. Press the red locking tab and pull the connector straight off the switch. Move the wiring harness aside to provide clearance for switch removal.
- 3Remove high pressure switchUsing a 10mm socket and ratchet, carefully unthread the AC high pressure switch from the AC line fitting. The switch threads directly into the high pressure line. Keep track of the O-ring seals - there is typically one on the switch body. Clean the sealing surface on the AC line port with a shop towel.
- 4Inspect port and prepare new switchInspect the threaded port in the AC line for damage or debris. Clean threads thoroughly with shop towel. Check new high pressure switch for proper O-ring installation - install new O-rings if supplied separately. Apply small amount of PAG 46 oil to O-ring seals on new switch to aid installation and ensure proper seal.
- 5Install new high pressure switchThread new AC high pressure switch into the AC line port by hand, ensuring it starts straight and threads smoothly. Once hand-tight, use 10mm socket and torque wrench to tighten to proper specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the O-ring seal and cause leaks.⚠Overtightening can crack the switch body or damage threads. Use torque wrench for proper installation.Torque specAC Line Fittings20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- 6Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the new AC high pressure switch until you hear or feel a distinct click. Verify the red locking tab is fully engaged. Gently tug on connector to confirm it is securely attached.
- 7Evacuate AC systemConnect AC vacuum pump to service ports. Evacuate system to full vacuum (30 inHg minimum) for at least 30 minutes. This removes air and moisture from the system. Monitor vacuum gauge - if system does not hold vacuum after pump is shut off, there is a leak that must be addressed before recharging.ℹ️Proper evacuation is critical. Moisture in system will damage compressor and reduce cooling efficiency.
- 8Recharge AC systemUsing AC manifold gauges and refrigerant supply, recharge system with R-134a to specification listed on underhood AC label (typically 1400-1600 grams for this vehicle). Add refrigerant slowly through low pressure port with engine running and AC on maximum cold. Monitor pressures and add only the specified amount. Add PAG oil if more than 2 ounces of refrigerant was recovered.
Reassembly
- Verify all electrical connections are secure and properly locked
- Confirm no tools or parts are left in engine bay
- Start engine and activate AC system to verify proper operation
Verification
- With engine running and AC on maximum cold, verify compressor clutch engages and cycles normally
- Check high and low pressure readings with manifold gauges - high side should be 200-250 psi, low side 25-45 psi at idle with 75-85°F ambient temperature
- Verify cold air output from cabin vents reaches 40-50°F
- Inspect new switch connection for any signs of refrigerant leakage (oil residue)
- Use electronic leak detector around new switch to confirm no refrigerant leaks
- Test drive vehicle and confirm AC continues to operate properly under load
