Parts

  • Dash speaker (3.5 inch tweeter) × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
  • Speaker mounting clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Allow interior to warm to room temperature if working in cold conditions
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
  4. Identify which dash speaker requires replacement (driver or passenger side)
  5. Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove instrument panel end cap
Open the door on the side where the speaker is being replaced. Locate the instrument panel end cap at the outer edge of the dashboard. Use a trim panel removal tool to carefully pry the end cap away from the dashboard, starting at the rear edge near the door opening. Work your way forward, releasing the retaining clips. Pull the end cap away from the dash and set aside.
  2. 2
    Access speaker grille fasteners
With the end cap removed, you will have access to the side of the dashboard. Locate the speaker grille on top of the dash at the far left (driver) or far right (passenger) position. The grille is a small triangular or trapezoidal piece with perforations for sound.
  3. 3
    Remove speaker grille
Using a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille starting from the rear edge. The grille is secured by retaining clips underneath. Apply gentle upward pressure while working around the perimeter to release all clips. Lift the grille away from the dashboard and set aside.
  4. 4
    Remove speaker mounting screws
With the grille removed, the speaker is now visible. Locate the three Torx T15 screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. Remove all three screws completely and set them aside in a safe location.
  5. 5
    Disconnect speaker electrical connector
Carefully lift the speaker up from the mounting location, tilting it to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the speaker from the vehicle.
  6. 6
    Install new speaker
Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker, ensuring it clicks firmly into place. Lower the speaker into the mounting location, aligning the three mounting holes with the bracket. Install the three Torx T15 screws and tighten them evenly in a star pattern to secure the speaker without over-tightening.
  7. 7
    Reinstall speaker grille
Position the speaker grille over the speaker, aligning the retaining clips with their mounting locations in the dashboard. Press down firmly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place and the grille is flush with the dashboard surface.
  8. 8
    Reinstall instrument panel end cap
Position the instrument panel end cap against the side of the dashboard, aligning all retaining clips with their receptacles. Starting at the front edge, press firmly to engage the clips, working your way toward the rear. Ensure the end cap is fully seated and flush with the dashboard.
  9. 9
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start engine). Turn on the radio and adjust the balance/fader controls to direct audio to the replaced speaker. Verify the speaker produces clear sound without distortion or rattles at various volume levels.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all trim panels are fully seated and all retaining clips are engaged
  2. Verify no gaps exist between the speaker grille and dashboard surface
  3. Check that the instrument panel end cap is flush with surrounding trim

Verification

  • Test speaker operation at low, medium, and high volume levels
  • Adjust balance and fader controls to isolate the replaced speaker and confirm proper function
  • Listen for any rattles or vibrations from the speaker or surrounding trim
  • Verify all dashboard trim pieces are secure and properly aligned
  • Check that no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster after battery reconnection
