Parts
- Dash speaker (3.5 inch tweeter) × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
- Speaker mounting clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Allow interior to warm to room temperature if working in cold conditions
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Identify which dash speaker requires replacement (driver or passenger side)
- Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning
Procedure
- 1Remove instrument panel end capOpen the door on the side where the speaker is being replaced. Locate the instrument panel end cap at the outer edge of the dashboard. Use a trim panel removal tool to carefully pry the end cap away from the dashboard, starting at the rear edge near the door opening. Work your way forward, releasing the retaining clips. Pull the end cap away from the dash and set aside.
- 2Access speaker grille fastenersWith the end cap removed, you will have access to the side of the dashboard. Locate the speaker grille on top of the dash at the far left (driver) or far right (passenger) position. The grille is a small triangular or trapezoidal piece with perforations for sound.
- 3Remove speaker grilleUsing a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille starting from the rear edge. The grille is secured by retaining clips underneath. Apply gentle upward pressure while working around the perimeter to release all clips. Lift the grille away from the dashboard and set aside.
- 4Remove speaker mounting screwsWith the grille removed, the speaker is now visible. Locate the three Torx T15 screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. Remove all three screws completely and set them aside in a safe location.
- 5Disconnect speaker electrical connectorCarefully lift the speaker up from the mounting location, tilting it to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the speaker from the vehicle.
- 6Install new speakerConnect the electrical connector to the new speaker, ensuring it clicks firmly into place. Lower the speaker into the mounting location, aligning the three mounting holes with the bracket. Install the three Torx T15 screws and tighten them evenly in a star pattern to secure the speaker without over-tightening.
- 7Reinstall speaker grillePosition the speaker grille over the speaker, aligning the retaining clips with their mounting locations in the dashboard. Press down firmly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place and the grille is flush with the dashboard surface.
- 8Reinstall instrument panel end capPosition the instrument panel end cap against the side of the dashboard, aligning all retaining clips with their receptacles. Starting at the front edge, press firmly to engage the clips, working your way toward the rear. Ensure the end cap is fully seated and flush with the dashboard.
- 9Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start engine). Turn on the radio and adjust the balance/fader controls to direct audio to the replaced speaker. Verify the speaker produces clear sound without distortion or rattles at various volume levels.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
