Parts
- Door speaker (6.5 inch or 9 inch depending on location) × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
- Door panel clips (if damaged) × 5 — Mopar 6503598AA or equivalent
- Dielectric grease × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge.
- Identify which door speaker is being replaced (front or rear, driver or passenger).
- Roll window fully up before beginning door panel removal.
- Prepare a clean workspace or towel to place door panel components during removal.
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel fastenersUsing a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw from the door pull/armrest area. Remove the screw from behind the interior door handle bezel. If equipped with manual windows, remove the window crank handle retaining clip and slide the handle off. For power windows, use a trim tool to carefully pry out the window switch bezel and disconnect the electrical connector.
- 2Release door panel clipsInsert trim panel removal tools around the perimeter of the door panel, starting at the bottom rear corner. Work your way around the panel, carefully releasing each plastic retaining clip. There are typically 8-10 clips securing the panel. Listen and feel for each clip to release before moving to the next location. Do not force or pry aggressively.
- 3Disconnect door panel wiringLift the door panel upward approximately 1 inch to disengage it from the window sill, then pull the bottom of the panel outward slightly. Reach behind the panel and disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for power locks, courtesy lights, or other accessories. Note the routing of wiring harnesses for reinstallation.
- 4Remove door panelOnce all electrical connections are disconnected, carefully remove the door panel from the door frame and set it face-down on a protected work surface. If equipped with a vapor barrier, carefully peel back only the section covering the speaker location, taking care not to tear the barrier material.
- 5Access and disconnect speakerLocate the speaker mounted to the door frame or inner door panel. Disconnect the speaker electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Inspect the connector terminals for corrosion; clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
- 6Remove speaker mounting fastenersRemove the three or four screws securing the speaker to the door or door panel using a Phillips screwdriver or socket. Note the location and orientation of the speaker for proper replacement installation. Carefully pull the speaker from its mounting location.Torque specCover Screws15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 7Install new speakerPosition the new speaker in the mounting location, ensuring the speaker terminals face the correct direction for connector access. Align all mounting holes. Install the speaker mounting screws and tighten to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure the speaker gasket or foam seal is properly seated to prevent water intrusion and rattles.Torque specCover Screws15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 8Connect speaker electrical connectorApply a small amount of dielectric grease to the speaker connector terminals. Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker, ensuring it locks fully into place with an audible click. Gently tug on the connector to verify secure connection.
- 9Test speaker operationReconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position without starting the engine. Test the new speaker by selecting that specific speaker using the audio system's fader and balance controls. Verify proper sound output at various volumes before proceeding.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall door panelDisconnect the battery negative terminal again. If disturbed, reattach the vapor barrier ensuring a complete seal. Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors for switches and accessories. Position the door panel, engaging the top edge into the window sill channel, then press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Install all screws in the door pull and handle areas, tightening securely but not overtightening plastic components.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated and the panel is secure with no gaps or rattles.
- Verify all electrical connectors are properly connected and locked in place.
- Test all door panel switches and controls for proper operation.
- Reconnect negative battery terminal and torque to specification.
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON/RUN position and test audio system on all speakers to verify proper installation.
- Use balance and fader controls to isolate the replaced speaker and confirm clear sound output at low, medium, and high volumes.
- Check for rattles or vibrations during audio playback, especially at higher bass frequencies.
- Verify door panel is securely attached with no loose clips or gaps.
- Test all door functions including window operation, locks, and interior door handle.
- Confirm no electrical warning lights or messages appear on the instrument cluster.
